At ServiceNow, we believe pragmatic leadership is crucial to a positive work culture and work-life balance. A sense of belonging in the workplace, fueled by empathy and support from leaders, encourages holistic well-being. That’s what ServiceNow leaders provide.
“Leaders here make employees feel that they matter,” says Sri E., staff cloud analytics analyst. In her 15 years of work experience, no manager had ever had a conversation with her about work-life balance until she joined ServiceNow.
At Sri’s previous places of employment, it was considered normal to work late nights. That’s not the case here, where we empower employees to live their best lives and do their best work both inside and outside the office. Part of that includes knowing when to unplug.
To motivate employees to do their best work and grow their careers, ServiceNow leaders actively encourage direct reports to pursue opportunities within the company. Suneela P., senior manager of software engineer management, has been at ServiceNow for four years and has taken advantage of every growth opportunity she’s been presented.
No manager has discouraged her pursuits. “Not once did my managers get upset that I was moving to another team,” she explains. “My senior director said if I didn’t like [my new position] after two years, I could come back.” That’s just one example of the caliber of leadership at ServiceNow.
It can be daunting to share about your personal life with your supervisor. Oftentimes, fear of what the manager might say or how they might react holds employees back.
When Ruben I., a sales development representative, finally got the courage to broach the subject of an extremely difficult family situation, he was surprised at his manager’s response. “It’s very easy to open up and talk to people,” Ruben realized.
Other companies may find it easy to talk about how great their leaders are. At ServiceNow, our employees back that up, gladly sharing about their interactions with the leadership here.
Loveth U., a talent sourcer, says her favorite thing about ServiceNow is access to leadership. “Being in this space where you are allowed to actually fly as high as possible and talk to anyone without feeling like there’s a hierarchical part of it just makes it very exciting for me,” she says.
Fostering an open and honest work culture is at the forefront of our leaders' priorities. They recognize the interconnectedness of employees' work and personal lives.
