How AI transformed Agile reporting at ServiceNow

3 ServiceNow employees who put AI to work to transform Agile reporting

At ServiceNow, teams are leading the way to put AI to work. By championing new tools and approaches, employees are demonstrating how AI can help eliminate repetitive tasks and free up time for meaningful work. One standout example is Agile Summary Assistant.

Agile project management is about short, focused sprints designed to deliver value quickly. But with each sprint comes an ongoing need for clear, consistent updates.

Theresa H., senior manager of security configuration management at ServiceNow, encouraged her team to think creatively about how AI could help streamline time-consuming Agile reporting.

Rajat S., staff information security engineer, took on the challenge and built an assistant that pulls data directly from the ServiceNow Agile product to generate summaries. As a result, automated daily, weekly, and sprint reports are delivered via email and Microsoft Teams, cutting stand-up meetings from five per week to two and saving hours of manual reporting.

Building the foundation

“When I started building the assistant,” Rajat says, “my goal was simple: Take away the repetitive reporting so the team could focus on meaningful work.”

Leadership support from Theresa ensured the project took root. “Agile is about being more productive and efficient because you plan regularly and deliver small, working pieces of product,” she says. “My team didn’t have a strong Agile background. We invested in training and set aside time every week to talk about how we could improve.”

That culture of learning created space for innovation. “Supporting Rajat’s project was a way to solve real pain points and show the team what’s possible,” Theresa adds.

Collaborating for success

The assistant wasn’t built in isolation. Colleagues from around the world contributed ideas and feedback, shaping the solution into a true team effort. “The first feature we built was AI-powered daily stand-up updates,” Rajat says. “The assistant pulls the data, creates a clear summary, and shares it automatically.”

Rajat’s approach embodies what it means to stay hungry and humble, a value that fuels innovation at ServiceNow. “He leaned in with curiosity and drive to build a solution while collaborating with others to make sure it worked for the whole team,” says Howard A., director of vulnerability and configuration management.

“Seeing the summaries go out automatically and knowing we’re saving hours every sprint has been really rewarding,” Rajat adds.

To Howard, the project confirms why ServiceNow is among Fortune’s America’s Most Innovative Companies. “Theresa recognized the opportunity, Rajat built the assistant, and together they created a solution that saves time while strengthening trust,” he says.

Looking ahead

What started as a solution for one team is sparking interest across ServiceNow. With the potential to scale more broadly and even evolve into a product customers could use, Agile Summary Assistant shows how small ideas can grow into big impact.
