question TNI modeling and dealing with importing data in Architect forum

I am working on a TNI deployment. I have been through the documentation; I have taken the various courses. The thing that is missing for me is the "why" of the actions that I am taking. I come from a telecommunications background, so it definitely isn't the understanding of the terminology, structure, hierarchy, etc. What I am running into are things like building a model template.

I built an inventory template for a simple device. It is an IP switch with 12 network interfaces. Eight of those interfaces are 1Gbps and four of them are 10Gbps. So, I build the device, created a generic 1Gbps network interface model and a generic 10Gbps network interface model. I added those all to the inventory template for the switch. When I use the design and assign, it builds the network device as expected but all of the network interfaces are named the same as the original interfaces. I would not expect to have to rename these once they have been added. It did not automatically name the network interface devices as expected. The documentation nor the training goes into the details of the true desired outcome of uniquely named ports specific to the device.

I am missing something from an architectural oversight perspective. If I have this issue at a single device, what happens when I import 5,000 pieces of network equipment?
