question CMDB, CI Class Manager, and Extending custom classes in CMDB forum

Hello SN people,

We have implemented a new Service Catalog for Dental practices and I'm wondering how best to handle configuration items for the CMDB. There is the OOB Hardware class that I can extend to handle most of the CIs, but most of the items for Dental practices do not have any OOB classes. My original thought was to extend the CI class with a Dental Hardware class and then extend it with hardware related to the Dental practices, however, even though I'm selecting Extensible after creating the new Dental Hardware class under Configuration Item, there is no option to add a child class to the new CI.

Would it be more effective to just create the new classes under the OOB Hardware class? Also, what might be causing the custom Dental Hardware table to not allow me to add a child class even though the extensible checkbox is selected.

Thanks in advance!

If this helps you to understand.

Thanks, I know that I can add a child class to Hardware. I was wondering why I'm not able to add a child class to a class that I created when I select the extensible option.

I was also just curious if anyone had any advice on whether I should create a totally separate class for all Dental CI classes.

Apologies. I am able to add a child class to the Dental Hardware class that I created. I think the issue was that the class had 'Managed by Group' as a group that I'm not in. I removed it and now I can add a child class.

I had the same issue. For some reason, creating a child class with the Extensible already checked does not work. Once your class has been created, uncheck it, save, then check it again and save. This worked for me.
