question Managing Non-IT Assets and Inventory in ITSM forum

Hello all

We are planning to use ServiceNow for managing all
i) assets (from chairs to buildings) - from procurement till retirement
ii) inventory - include the entire item master database from our ERP and handle the procurement process

I am thinking that the process would be similar to IT asset management but with a few differences.
How optimal would be the non IT-asset/ inventory management process be?

Assuming that we bring in all our assets and inventory into ServiceNow successfully, is there a way to distinguish between: IT Assets/ non-IT Assets/ Inventory items?

Thanks in advance 🙂

I am currently in the same boat and wonder how far anyone has gone with adding all company assets beyond IT?

I also have this task on my plate. Our Finance dept wants to track furniture, applicance, and other non-IT items. I was told to use the Asset Management plugin, but it's difficult to find how-to examples to get things off the ground.

My understanding is that CMDB should NOT be used to track non-IT assets.

I agree. There are surely ways to do this properly, and I'm sure there are people out there that have, but examples are lacking, if not impossible to find.

The documentation also seems to be heavily skewed towards ITAM, with only one example I can recall of creating a new asset class, but not much on what to do after that.
