Thanks Stacey but this way I can hide it and my requirement is to make it visible but read only so that users can't modify it that filter.

Hello Community,

I am trying to filter out the Configuration Items (CIs) with empty names in both 'Edit' Slush bucket and 'Add' button sys popup window of 'Affected CIs' related list. I am able to use the 'Default filter' from the List control of the 'Affected CIs' related list header, but I am trying to find ways to apply the same filter to the 'Add' button sys popup window under 'Affected CIs' related list.

Any thoughts?

I tried to add Default filter on the 'Add' button's sys popup of list hearer, but I couldn't add the 'Edit default filter' field to the form on this List control.

Thanks,

Hari

Go to System UI --> Related Lists

Search for table "incident"

Select one of the entries (i.e. default view)

There you will see the related list task_ci.task (You can also get to it by going to the table: sys_ui_related_list_entry and finding this list id instead.)

You can update the filter there and it will apply to your related list.

OR you can create your own related list entry with the filter (keeping things out-of-the-box) and put that on your incident form or other forms.

I also found out that, making update to a Related List (say 'task_ci.task') for the filter will impact all the forms that uses the related lists in context. Do you guys think of any other idea to address this problem ?

You can create your own related list as I said instead of updating the out-of-box version. Just insert a new related list into that table and pull it up on your form. That way you're only impacting the view/form you wish to.

You're right, it only filters the list of items shown and doesn't provide the filter to the edit button on the list. I'm not sure it will be easy to do what you want to do. Maybe someone else would like to spend time trying to figure it out or script it. Slush bucket lists are a pain to work with.

You could look at modifying the edit button (type "ui actions" in the left menu and find the "Edit..." button for the many to many.) I just think it isn't worth going to that level.

Also, the "edit" button lets you choose from all CIs but the "add" (do you mean "new"?) button creates a new CI so not sure you want to offer that...

Filtering Related List Relationships - ServiceNow Wiki

Here is your final solution that should work according to Filtering Related List Relationships - ServiceNow Wiki

Right click the list and get into your "list control" form.

Personalize this form to add the "Edit default filter" to your form.

Click on this filter and you can set it so the edit button only shows those CIs that match that filter.

Thank you Stacey for taking a look at it again. I actually implemented the above suggested approach of "Edit default filter", and it addressed "Edit" slush bucket part of the problem. However, "Add" sys popup is not working with this "Edit default filter". any thoughts for that part?

"Add" button on the "Affected CIs" related list is an out of the box button similar to "Edit" to add CIs to the Change Request. Its not about creating a new CI.

Okay, glad that worked for the edit button.

I don't have an add button, only the "new" button which creates the new CI. Hmmm... Nor do I have an "Add" ui action anywhere. Is this out of the box and I'm simply missing it or is it a new UI action you created? Could it just be limited to allow users to only use the "edit" button as that does the same thing?

Okay I just upgraded my dev instance to Geneva and I see it. Very interesting as when I upgraded, my edit button was now omitted and I see the "add" button.

The ui action calls the GlideAjax function AssociateCIToTask

I can't find anything you'd have to update other than modifying this somehow. Maybe someone else has an idea that is easier. You can disable the add button if you want to stay with the slushbucket edit as well.

P.S. You can create a default filter in Geneva using this step (only filters the displaying of the list.): Create a default filter

Hello Lionel,

We have a filter defined in filter table. Can we use that filter in the script. We don't want to change the script instead we can change the filter under system definition->Filters that will change in the affected CI's.

Thank You

Could you tell how can we make sure that the filter which is applied " NameisNotEmpty" should be read only? No one should be able to modify it as now I can modify this filter.

If you want to stop them from editing it. When you click add and get the pop up, you can still edit the list control.

At the top of the list, right click --> Configure --> List Control -->

You can then assign "filter roles" (to give access to certain roles only) or check "omit filters" to omit the filter from the display.
