Data Table From URL Definition Widget

Hi all,

Using the Data Table From URL Definition widget in the Service Portal that comes with Helsinki. Cloned it so that I could make it work for me. I added the table name (cases) and added the fields I wanted to see. That however doesn't seem to be what that field means when I edit the widget. The widget defaults to 4 fields (Number,Task Type ,Short Description and Priority). I did not select all of these and actually added a couple others I wanted to see but they don't show. I love the look of the table that it presents, but it's just not acting the way I expected.I know that If I use other widget: 'Data Table From Instance Definition' it will be worked fine, but I need actually this widget because I have to pass a parameter from other widget in the URL. What am I missing about customizing/configuring a widget?

Does someone have any idea?

Same issue here...as the page is defined from the URL, there is no actual page or widget to edit - so how do we set the parameters of the data that is displayed?

The configs I need to make are:

1) remove breadcrumbs

2) make page Public

3) display only the "Short Description" column

4) add a button to take user to the Record Producer

I too need to set different columns using this widget. Ideally, I want to pass the table and fields into this page as parameters, so I can build URLs to display differently for other tables. This seems to work.

I cloned the 'Data Table From Instance Definition' Widget. In the server script I added this line.

	if (input) {
		data.table = input.table;
		data.view = input.view;
	} else {
		data.table = $sp.getParameter('table') \|\| $sp.getParameter('t');
		data.view = $sp.getParameter('view');
		data.fields = $sp.getParameter('fields');
	}

Then I commented out the line that sets the default fields in the parameters.

data.table_label = gr.getLabel();

//data.fields = $sp.getListColumns(data.table, data.view);

data.title = gr.getPlural();

Then in the URL add a comma separated list of field names in the parameter.

Hi Michal,

When you use data table from URL definition it is configured very similar to the way you would configure a list in the rest of the platform but with enough small differences to make it tricky.

Basically, this widget will pull the list of fields to show from a standard list view. We specify the view we want to use in our URL using the view parameter.

In the platform UI you would use sysparm_view=<some_view_name> but in Service Portal you just use view=<some_view_name>

So, for example if I have a page called list_from_url that uses the data table from URL widget I can use this URL

/sp/?id=list_from_url&table=incident&view=Major%20Incidents&filter=assigned_toDYNAMIC90d1921e5f510100a9ad2572f2b477fe

to show an incident list using the Major Incident view and with a dynamic filter (assigned_to is me).

I stand corrected...there is a page called List and a Widget. I was able to clone the widget and configure it to display what I wanted as well as customize the list page.

This is resolved for me.

In the SP we are unable to see how to set a particular view when using the Data table from URL definition widget. Can you help point us in the right direction?

Furthermore, the Fields field does not seem to do what the documentation says it does: Columns to display in the table. Instead of our selected columns, we are getting the Number, then a set of 9 alphabetized columns starting with A.

For what it's worth, this appears to be fixed in Jakarta patch 2. It works on my personal dev instance, but not on our instances (Jakarta patch 0).

Hey Susan,

I did some research into the fields option for data table from URL definition and here is what I found.

It looks like the option is included because we're embedding the data table widget into this one and fields is an available option for that widget.

From what I am seeing though, this option is used by data table from instance definition but URL definition is actually expected to ignore it so you might actually be hitting some odd behavior in JP2. In fact, if you look at the server script for data table from URL definition it does not ever look at the value of the fields option. You'll see that data table from instance definition does.

The intent with URL definition is that you use URL parameters (view=ess for example) to set the view for the list - not the instance options. Those really seem to only apply to data table from instance definition.

I'm going to put in a request to have our documentation updated to reflect this because it seems that the fields option should not be used in data table from URL definition.

Jesse,

We're wanting to use this within the Service Portal. We are using the "Requests" widget to display a list of records when the user clicks the "View All Requests" link. On that page, we have simple list widgets that display the records by type (incident, change request, etc.). From the simple lists, if there are more records than our max (currently 10), the "View All" link shows in the bottom right. Clicking that link displays the list of records and this is where we are unable to impact the columns shown in our instance; however, it does appear to be working in our personal dev instance.

Fortunately, we already have plans to apply Patch 4 later this month, so we'll check back to see if this works after the upgrade.

Can you tell me how do you configure all those columns in that list page? I am trying to add more columns in list page for case table.I have gone through lot of articles I am not able to find exact information. Can you help me with this

Sumanth, you should be able to Control + right-click the 'Data Table from URL Definition' widget on the List page and go to Instance Options. From there, you will see a Fields list. The fields you add to that list should be displayed as the columns (in the order you provide). However, I just tried this with our widget (Kingston Patch 3) and it's no longer working. Apparently it did work for us in Jakarta Patch 4. I'm not sure what has changed between JP4 and KP3 that has caused this to no longer work for us.

There is certainly some issue with the documentation of this widget. The solution to this that you have to create a new list layout/view for the table and then give parameter in the url. For instance if you created a view with name 'test', you need to give 'view=test' in the url.
