question Re: Project Template not carrying over the planned duration in SPM forum

I have figured out the solution.

Need to make sure we have the dependency intact using the project workspace gant chart, which further creates the planned task relationship. This then helps in project creation with the duration intact and dates as per the planned duration.

We are trying to build a project template where project tasks have defined dependencies and planned durations. The idea is that when a new project is created from this template, the task dates should automatically calculate based on the project’s planned start date, using the static planned duration defined on the template tasks.

However, when creating a new template from an existing project, the task dependencies and date behaviour don’t seem to carry over as expected. The durations exist on the project but are not carried over to template.

Is this expected behaviour in ServiceNow?

Do task dependencies need to be manually configured again during project creation?

Or is there a specific configuration or best practice to ensure that dependencies and planned durations are honoured when using project templates?

Any guidance on how others handle this would be appreciated.

Hello @Community Alums ,

When you save a project as template, I believe the dependency set in the project also retained within the template.

Thank You !

Yes, the dependency is created only via gantt chart. Once we have that on saving as a new template it carries the dependencies.
