Adding Additional Columns to RMW and PW for Resource Assignment

What problem does this solve?:

Understanding additional details about the Resource Assignments in our Workspaces is key to making appropriate decisions. And it needs to be easy, with as few clicks as possible.

This guide will walk you through adding additional Resource Assignment attributes to both the Resource Management Workspace (RMW) and Project Workspace (PW).

Adding a new field to the Resource Assignment list

Go to the sn_plng_att_core_resource_assignment table list
Right click on one of the column headers (for example, right click on "Resource") and select Configure > List Layout
Ensure the view is "Default"
Move the necessary field from the Available slush bucket to the Selected slush bucket

Adding a new field to the Resource Management Workspace

Follow steps 1a & 1b
Ensure the view is "Resource Manager"
Move the necessary field from the Available slush bucket to the Selected slush bucket

Adding a new field to the RMW “Unassigned grid”

Follow steps 1a & 1b
Ensure the view is "Resource Unassigned"
Move the necessary field from the Available slush bucket to the Selected slush bucket

Adding a new field to the Project Workspace

Follow steps 1a & 1b
Ensure the view is "Project Workspace"
Move the necessary field from the Available slush bucket to the Selected slush bucket

Reset columns in Resource Management Workspace

Go to the Resource Management Workspace
Click on the column configuration icon on the right-hand sidebar
Scroll down to the bottom and click "Reset columns"
Check the necessary column to be shown on the workspace
OPTIONAL: Change the order of display for the columns as needed
Refresh the page again and see the column populated

Reset columns in Project Workspace

Go to the Project Workspace
Click on the column configuration icon on the right-hand sidebar
Scroll down to the bottom and click "Reset columns"
Check the necessary column to be shown on the workspace
OPTIONAL: Change the order of display for the columns as needed
Refresh the page again and see the column populated

Adding a custom 'Task' field to the Resource Assignment row (in any list above)

Follow steps 1a & 1b
Ensure the appropriate view is selected
Expand the Task (by clicking the hierarchy button)
You will see .Task-->Task fields
Scroll until you find the appropriate task field (I am using a custom field on Project as this example)
NOTE: if field is on a table extended from task, these options will be dark red and have the [table] next to the name
Move the necessary field from the Available slush bucket to the Selected slush bucket
Follow process above to reset columns in the desired Workspace view

I may be missing something, but these changes still aren't displaying Time Off in the Resource Management Workspace for me.

One thing we found when adding the Name column, especially in RMW, we had to reset the columns to see the additions.

i want this List Layout changes to be reflected in Resource Management Workspace without Clicking on Reset Columns.

@dblj29 Are you talking about the Operational work type column? If so, the latest release provided an update that puts that column's value as the name in Resource Management Workspace.
However, the time_off category effects CAPACITY and does not add ALLOCATIONS. So you will not see an Assignment for the users that have this as an Operational Resource Assignment. There will just be a blank and reduction of CAPACITY for the timeframe of Time Off.

An alternative - and one many customers use - is to do Out of Office, or create your own "time off" category that does NOT reduce capacity. This will then create ALLOCATIONS and show up on RMW.
The difference between the two is that the reduction of CAPACITY does not allow for ALLOCATIONS during this time, period, or it will show a negative if there is already ALLOCATIONS for that resource.
While a category that generates ALLOCATIONS only decrements AVAILABILITY and adds ALLOCATIONS keeping your CAPACITY static.

Hi, how do i add dot-walked columns into the column configuration? it doesn't seem to work for dot-walked fields.

My custom field is a reference field. When I use the 'is' operator to attempt to filter on a field, it expects a string only. Instead, I would like to be provided a list of available values as I would expect for other reference fields. Is this possible?

Hi Josh, thanks for the great guide — adding custom columns to RMW works well following these steps.

However, I’m facing an issue where edits made to the added custom columns (cell values/selections) are not being saved in Resource Management Workspace. The fields are visible and editable, but changes revert after editing.

This is currently a blocker, and after spending quite some time investigating, I haven’t been able to find any clear way to configure or enable saving for these custom columns. Any insights would be highly appreciated.
