Service interrupted: how long does it take?

My PDI is offline. I saw on the forums that I just have to wait it out or create a new instance. I don't want to recreate everything I had. How long has it taken for the PDI to be online again? Also, how often does this occur and why does it happen?

Hi @juweriaf

Is it an old or a new PDI?

Not sure if you have seen this announcement by Servicenow, if your PDI belonged to old datacenter, it will be reclaimed and you will have to request for a new PDI.

I understand your frustation as well, I lost my PDI of 5 years.
As we know, PDIs are just a free service we are using, and Servicenow long back has mentioned the instance can be lost due to unavoidable circumstances so we need to take the backup of your instance regularly.

This is very inconvenient and unfortunate, but at this moment we can't do anything, all you can do is to request a new PDI and keep backups going forward. Refer to the link to how to backup your instance:

Hi @juweriaf ,

As you might know, there is no support available from ServiceNow in relation to PDIs, hence you're limited to two options.

  1. Wait - it should come online again after some time
  2. If you get tired of waiting, release your instance and request a fresh installation. Please note, by doing this all work that haven't been backed up is lost.

Hi there,

Same answer as on the hundreds of others in the previous months:

These free PDIs come without any support. We all can't help you on this. The only thing you can do is wait and hope the instance gets back, or... request a new one.

Always backup your work, since PDIs suddenly - without notice - can get offline or even gone forever.

I don't know if this applies to you, though it could ofcourse also have to do with the datacentre issues which ServiceNow communicated. See for example:
"Action Required: We are migrating our PDI Infrastructure to a new data center. See our developer blog for more details and instructions for backing up."

Kind regards,

I've had it for over a month, it must be one of the PDIs in the old data centre. I released the instance and just requested a new one
