I think the best way is to take the Foundations course. After that take the System Administration course. OR you could attend a Knowledge event and fill your schedule with intro level classes.
Another method is to poke around in a demo instance while using this forum and the wiki to try to figure out how things work. This method isn't systematic but it will give you a feel for how things operate.
If you plan on developing then I recommend learning javascript. If you are already familiar with javascript going into service-now training you will have a leg up.

As someone who has just recently started working/learning Service Now, I would have to agree with Justin about making sure you start with the Foundations course. That was the first thing I did before anything. After that I was able to start messing around with a demo instance and when ever I needed to understand something I would reference the wiki and try to figure it out.

1) Take the foundations course.
2) Use the Demo to understand the system.
3) Use the ServiceNow wiki and this community to learn and find answers to your questions.
5) Check which area of ServiceNow you need to learn(Scripting, Discovery, Administration, etc) and download the book from the wiki http://wiki.servicenow.com/index.php?title=Books
6) Enroll into the Administration course.
7) Get the System Administration certification.
😎 Continue learning...
