## Summary of Integrating Now Assist in Virtual Agent with Microsoft Copilot

This guide explains how to integrate ServiceNow's Now Assist Virtual Agent with Microsoft Copilot via the Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams.
The integration leverages generative AI capabilities within Microsoft Teams, extending the Virtual Agent's conversational experience through Copilot without requiring additional configuration changes on the ServiceNow instance.

## Key Features

* **Seamless Integration:** Utilizes the existing Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams application (Xanadu version) to enable Copilot support automatically with the default Teams plugin (snvateams).
* **Licensing Requirements:** Requires either a Microsoft Copilot license or the free Copilot chat license, with Copilot enabled on the Microsoft Teams tenant.
* **No Additional ServiceNow Configuration:** No extra setup is needed on the ServiceNow side other than verifying Now Assist licensing and ensuring the Virtual Agent is configured.
* **Channels Activation:** Enable the Teams bot (default or self-configured) in the Now Assist Conversations channel settings to activate integration.
* **Bot Interaction:** Users can interact with the Now Virtual Agent bot in Copilot by @-mentioning it or selecting it from the Agents panel within Copilot.
* **Support for Default and Self-configured Bots:** Both the default Now Virtual Agent bot and self-configured bots are supported, with the self-configured bot supporting the latest Copilot Conversational Experience Adapter (CEA).

## Practical Use and Next Steps

* **Upgrade Requirement:** Ensure the Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams application is upgraded to the Xanadu release for automatic Copilot integration.
* **Enable Teams Integration Channel:** After installing the Teams integration, activate it in the Virtual Agent's Channels tab by selecting and saving the Teams integration checkbox.
* **Using the Default Bot:** No additional setup is required---interaction is available directly within Copilot.
* **Using a Self-configured Bot:** Follow the established process similar to Microsoft Teams bot integration and complete any additional setup steps as documented to support the latest Copilot functionalities.
* **Using Now Assist Plugins:** During generative AI conversations in Copilot, specify the bot or plugin name to connect with Now Assist plugins seamlessly.

This integration empowers ServiceNow customers to enhance their Virtual Agent capabilities by harnessing Microsoft Copilot's generative AI within Microsoft Teams, providing a streamlined conversational support experience without complex configuration overhead.
Integrate your Now Assist
Virtual Agent with Microsoft Copilot using Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams to leverage the generative AI conversational experience.

The Microsoft Copilot integration uses the existing setup and configuration experience for Microsoft Teams through the Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams application, because the primary use case for Copilot is an extension of Microsoft Teams.
The default Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams plugin (sn_va_teams) automatically integrates with Copilot. For the integration to work automatically, verify that you have:

* The Xanadu version of the Conversational Integration with Microsoft Teams application installed and configured. If you have a previous version of the application, upgrade it to the Xanadu release.
* Either a Microsoft Copilot license or the free Copilot chat license.
  Note:
  * Before the integration, make sure that Copilot is enabled on your Microsoft Teams tenant.
  * No configuration changes are required on your ServiceNow instance to integrate with Microsoft Copilot.
  * There are no additional configurations required for Copilot.

* The Now Assist license and verify that the Now Assist in Virtual Agent is configured. For more information, see [Configuring assistants overview](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Iq8pGh6Fvy4~YMEuJyerJQ "Use Assistant Designer to build and optimize large language model (LLM) assistants for your conversational needs. Assistant Designer is a centralized assistant administrator experience that allows you to create and manage both chat and voice assistants.").
* Enable the teams bot (the Now Virtual Agent bot or the Self-configured bot, which you would like to use for Copilot integration) for the Now Assist Conversations in the AllConversational InterfacesAssistantsDisplay experienceChannels section.

  After installing the Teams integration, it should appear in the Channels tab. Select the check box next to Teams integration and then select Save and Continue.

## Integrate Microsoft Copilot with Now Virtual Agent bot {#ms-copilot-na-va__section_glj_j15_xbc}

If you're using the default Now Virtual Agent bot, no additional setup is required. The process of integrating the Now Virtual Agent bot with Microsoft Copilot is similar to that of integrating the Now Virtual Agent bot with Microsoft Teams.

For more information, see [Integrating ServiceNow Virtual Agent with Microsoft Teams](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/CIZIBKzKIYYfQGZTdoz3tg "Enables ServiceNow Virtual Agent to integrate with Microsoft Teams application.").
To interact with the Now Virtual Agent bot within Copilot, you can either @-mention the bot name and invoke it or navigate to the Agents section on the right panel within Copilot to select it for direct interaction.Figure 1. Selecting the Now Virtual Agent bot within Copilot

The default Now Virtual Agent app that is compatible with Microsoft Copilot integration is available on the Microsoft Teams store for use.

## Integrate Microsoft Copilot with Self-configured bot {#ms-copilot-na-va__section_xc5_4b5_xbc}

Use your Self-configured bot to connect with Microsoft Copilot. The process of integrating the Self-configured bot with Microsoft Copilot is similar to that of integrating the Self-configured bot with Microsoft Teams. For more information, see [Integrating Virtual Agent with Microsoft Teams using the self-configured bot](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/ShGs~IdBwDTE17mJ5lvUrg "You can integrate Virtual Agent with Microsoft Teams by configuring your own bots. The self-configured method provides another way for customers to enable the integration without installing the default Now Virtual Agent app that is published on the Microsoft Store. Unlike the pre-published app, the self-configured bot bypasses the collaboration proxy architecture.").

The self-configured bot will support the latest Copilot CEA experience. The out-of-the-box production bot will continue to provide support until October 2025. For more information, see [Setting up the Self-configured bot for using Microsoft Copilot](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/pUXMQ8uAQCnJGmwIomTZeg "Using your Self-configured bot with Microsoft Copilot for Now Assist conversations requires you to complete a few additional setup actions.") and
