# Reporting roles

# Reporting roles {#ariaid-title1}

* Release version: Yokohama
*
* Updated January 30, 2025
*
* ![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 2 minutes to read

Reporting is installed with roles that limit report creation. Access control lists (ACLs) can also limit report viewing and creation.
Note:
* Users must have the report_user role to see the Reports module on the application navigator (left navigation pane).
* Users with any reporting role or the itil role can access the following report options for all reports that are visible to them: Insert, Insert and Stay, Add to Dashboard, and Export to PDF.
{#reporting-roles__ul_vtx_lrv_rv}

To learn more about managing per-user subscriptions, see [Managing per-user subscriptions in Subscription Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=managing-user-subscriptions-v2&version=yokohama&pubname=yokohama-platform-administration&ft:locale=en-US) and contact your account representative.

In the following table, the term manage indicates access to the following report options: Update, Delete, and Export settings.

## Access with no roles {#reporting-roles__section_tfp_v3h_j1c}

Can view reports that are shared with them.

## Reporting access with ACL {#reporting-roles__section_fjs_s3h_j1c}

The report_view access controls on tables and fields limits the ability to read, edit and create reports. Administrators can create other ACL rules. You need a role that gives you access to the data that is the subject of the
report. For more information, see [Restrict report creation with an ACL rule](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/aK3kg8gjNjZvCz3l_ZtZxQ "Create an access control list rule to restrict who can create a report on a table, data source, or database view.") and [Report_view access control](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Wvwu0J8IRDwUqBON2iBCgg "The report_view operation is a record type access control list (ACL) that restricts access to reports. Only users who have one of the required roles can view reports that contain the restricted resource.").
