The Enterprise Asset Management automates the full lifecycle of your physical business assets with prescriptive workflows. With Enterprise Asset Management, you can maximize the return on your enterprise assets, control capital and operating costs, and reduce risk by tracking and managing your assets from planning to disposal.

## Enterprise Asset Management workflow {#exploring-eam__section_an1_bmc_4cc}

The following illustration describes the tasks involved in the Enterprise Asset Management workflow.

1. A user in any role initiates a request for an asset using the Service Catalog application
2. The request is created and sent for approval.
3. Following approval, the asset manager begins the process of sourcing the requested asset.
4. The asset manager evaluates whether to source the asset locally from a stockroom, transfer it from another location, or create a new purchase order.
5. The asset manager decides to create a new purchase order to source the asset.
6. Upon receipt of the purchase order, the field technician deploys the asset.
7. The asset manager uses work order and work order tasks to track and manage work for the asset.
8. Additionally, the asset manager can create contracts for the asset and manage by taking actions on contracts that are nearing expiration or already expired.
9. The asset manager can also track the total cost of ownership for the asset.
10. As the asset approaches the end of its useful life, the asset manager assesses whether to replace or dispose of the asset.
11. Based on the decision, the asset manager initiates either a refresh flow or a disposal flow for the asset.
