# Data collected for Azure

# Data collected for Microsoft Azure
Cloud Discovery {#ariaid-title1}

Release version: Zurich
Updated July 31, 2025
![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 3 minutes to read
Discovery collects information about cloud resources in Microsoft Azure datacenters. Discovering some of these resources might require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.

## Request apps on the Store {#data-collected-azure-discovery__section_y3k_3pl_rlb}

Visit the [ServiceNow Store](https://store.servicenow.com/sn_appstore_store.do#!/store/home) website to view all the available apps and for information about submitting requests to the store. For cumulative release notes information for all released apps, see the [ServiceNow Store version history release notes](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/store-release-notes/sn-store-release-notes.html).{#data-collected-azure-discovery__inline-send-to-store}

## Prerequisites {#data-collected-azure-discovery__section_asl_pcm_jzb}

Verify that the applications are up to date
:
    * Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns
    * CMDB CI Class Models
    * Visibility Content
    {#data-collected-azure-discovery__ul_aln_qlb_5yb}

Create Azure cloud credentials
: Create Microsoft Azure credentials that can access the Microsoft Azure account. For more information, see [Create Azure cloud credentials](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/gdMjiCdRG_AE9pO2aEOACQ "If your cloud resources are in an Azure cloud, create credentials that can access the Azure account. This procedure requires configuration in your Azure account.").

Configure a discovery schedule
: [Create a discovery schedule in Cloud Discovery Workspace](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/HqOgLUuXYs~qteHC5QcuyA "Create schedules for discovering cloud resources based on the discovery method that you choose: service accounts or IP ranges. The discovery schedule defines the various settings for the cloud discovery.")

## Verify the REST API Permissions {#data-collected-azure-discovery__id_tnc_2bb_f1c}

Download the [Cloud Discovery patterns spreadsheet](https://downloads.docs.servicenow.com/resource/enus/api/servicenow-discovery-patterns-api-details.xlsx) so you can grant user permissions required for running the Discovery patterns. In addition to permissions, the spreadsheet also includes useful information such as pattern names, types, CI Classes, and links to vendor documentation. New patterns are available
quarterly, so check periodically to be sure you have the latest version of the spreadsheet.{#data-collected-azure-discovery__cloud-discovery-api-ph-prereq}

## How Discovery finds Microsoft Azure resources {#data-collected-azure-discovery__section_s3h_1cv_nz}

Discovery uses the Cloud Provisioning and Governance API and Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns to find cloud resources.
{#data-collected-azure-discovery__table_wwr_rng_gz__entry__2}

| Pattern | Description |
|-|-|
| Azure DataBase (LP) | Discovers database types of: * Microsoft.sql/servers * microsoft.sql/managedInstances * microsoft.dbformysql * microsoft.documentdb/databaseaccounts * microsoft.cache/redis * microsoft.dbforpostgresql/servers * microsoft.dbformysql/servers * microsoft.dbformysql/flexibleservers * microsoft.dbforpostgresql/flexibleservers {#data-collected-azure-discovery__ul_kkx_1zq_2xb} Populates the \[cmdb_ci_cloud_database\] table. |
| Azure LoadBalancer TD | Retrieves Microsoft Azure load balancers and populates the cmdb_ci_lb_service table. This pattern is only used by Service Mapping for top-down discovery, not by the Discovery application for horizontal discovery. |
| Azure WebSite (LP) | Retrieves Microsoft Azure web servers and populates the Cloud WebServers \[cmdb_ci_cloud_webserver\] and IP address \[cmdb_ci_ip_address\] tables. |
