The The ServiceNow® Legal Hold Notification application helps organizations manage their legal obligations to preserve relevant information when a legal hold is issued. It enables you to submit a legal hold matter, add custodians, send notices, and close the legal hold matter, to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

The following workflow outlines the legal hold process, from creating to closing a legal hold notification matter.

1. A legal hold fulfiller submits a legal hold notification matter when a legal hold is issued.
2. A group manager or practice area lead assigns the matter owner (legal hold fulfiller) to the legal hold matter.
3. The legal hold fulfiller drafts the legal hold notice, adds custodians, and sends the notice to ensure that related data is preserved.
4. The custodians receive the legal hold notice and formally acknowledge its receipt.
5. The legal hold fulfiller tracks the custodian acknowledgment status and sends reminders to custodians who haven't acknowledged the notice.
6. The legal hold fulfiller confirms that all custodians have acknowledged the notice.
7. The legal hold fulfiller closes the legal hold notification matter when the legal hold is officially lifted.
