  • Use AI-generated overviews of a playbook's stages, activities, triggers, and inputs to understand its purpose and flow without going into the details of what is being done at activity and stage level.

Playbooks can grow complex over time, with multiple stages and activities that make it difficult for users unfamiliar with a playbook to understand quickly its purpose and flow. The playbook summarization feature lets you generate a structured summary of a playbook's contents without manually reading through each activity.

Summaries are generated using Now Assist and are based on the playbook's stages, activities, triggers, and inputs. You can choose from three summary formats:

    Standard
A brief overview of the playbook and its stages. This is the default format.
    Short
A concise, condensed summary suitable for quick reference.
    Elaborate
A detailed description of the playbook flow, including stage-by-stage explanations.

After you generate a summary, it is stored and reused across sessions. If a summary already exists for a playbook, it displays automatically when you open the summary panel. You can copy or save the generated summary as the playbook description.

    Note:
Summaries are generated by AI and may not always be accurate. Review the generated summary before using it as the playbook description.

    Refining a summary

After a summary is generated, you can refine it using preset options or a custom instruction. Preset options let you elaborate or shorten the summary, or change the tone to casual or formal. You can also enter a free-text instruction that Now Assist uses to refine the existing summary.

    Detecting playbook changes

The summarization feature tracks structural changes to a playbook. If the playbook has been modified since the last summary, a warning appears in the summary panel indicating that the summary may be outdated. You can then regenerate the summary using the Refresh option.
