*
* ![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 2 minutes to read

Use News articles to keep employees updated on company news and announcements.

## Before you begin

* Role required: sn_cd.content_manager
* To publish large quantities of news articles, create a Content template before you create news articles. See [Create a Content template](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/xcr0xuorQA47pKarJJzaFw "A content template is pre-defined publishing plan for news articles. Create a content template to enable content authors to create and publish higher volumes of news article content.")
* You can assign one or more content categories to the news article so employees can filter news articles by category. See [Create a content category](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/ZvdcXfLpquD3QKw0odAUxg "Create a content category to tag news articles.").
* Social engagement settings enable employees to view page count, select a reaction icon, or leave a comment. See [Content engagement](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/n4s0CB28TbUOGESvPyYjfg "Content engagement enhances news articles by providing users with a way to comment and react to articles and for managers to measure the effectiveness of their content using engagement metrics.")

## About this task

The news article content type is built using the Rich Content Editor and published to the employee portal via news widgets. For an overview of News articles, see [News articles](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/xkVvUv5jpRydzIb0hf9y8Q "The News article content type combines content creation features from the Rich Content Editor with new publishing methods that enable high volume content publishing to the portal and Now Mobile app to keep employees updated on company news and announcements.").

## Procedure

1. Navigate to Content PublishingContent Library.
2. Select New.
3. Select News Article under the Choose a content format section.
4. Select Continue.
5. Fill in the fields in the New content form.
   {#ec-content-library-news-article__table_nc1_ttv_frb__entry__2}

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Content name | The name that describes the content you are creating. |
   | Order | The order in which the news article appears in a widget or the news page. A news article with a lesser value appears first. If two articles have the same order value, articles will appear based on the most-recent publish date. |
   | Active | Indicates the content is active and available for use. |
   | Article publish start date and time | The date and time when the article becomes available for viewing on the portal. Note: The article becomes visible to specific users on a set date, based on the publish plan configurations. |
   | Article publish end date and time | The date and time when the article is no longer available for viewing. |
   | Headline | The headline for the news article |
   | Subheadline | The secondary header for the news article |
   | Featured image | The image that will appear in the news article and as a thumbnail in the News feed widget in the Employee Center Pro. We recommend a 4:3 ratio for images. |
   | Article content | Link to assemble the body of the news article in the Rich Content editor. See [Microsites](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/c6uhfwo0bwFC19L1ra8PVw "Rich Content Editor enables content managers and admins to create HTML-based content for the Employee Center Pro topic and portal pages using a visual drag-and-drop interface.") |
   | Use a content template (Optional) | Option to use a preconfigured template which provides a content layout and generates a publish plan. See [Content templates](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/2yaLhCmHjjrmcv1SYmecDQ "Content templates empower content creators to efficiently publish large volumes of news articles. Each template defines the article layout, publishing schedule, destination, and target audience. By associating a news article with a content template, the system automatically generates publish plans, which reduces the effort required to publish content.") |
   | Category | Select one or more categories to associate with the news article. |
   | Social engagement settings | If the Content Admin enabled social engagement, the following settings appear in the form to allow employees to engage with the article: * Allow comments * Allow reactions * Show page view count {#ec-content-library-news-article__ul_svw_kbj_1bc} |
   [Table 1. Design]

   {#ec-content-library-news-article__table_nc1_ttv_frb}
6. Click Save and continue to proceed to publishing the article.
   If you change the Content template after saving the News article, the system deletes the auto-generated publish plans and generates new plans per the newly-selected Content template.
   You are redirected to the Publish tab.

## What to do next

* Review how the News article will appear in the Article detail page by clicking Preview on portal.
  Note:
  The content preview does not show how News articles appear in a widget or on mobile.
* [Publishing news articles](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/_vGiU~nNBzydBT~IvN4dAw "News articles can be published via a publish plan or using Content templates to auto-generate publish plans. These auto-generated publish plans are inactive by default and must be activated for News articles to appear in the portal.")
