# Disable attorney client privilege for matter

# Disable attorney client privilege for legal matter {#ariaid-title1}

Disable privileged and confidential status of a legal matter.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_lg_ops.legal_fulfiller

## About this task

As a fulfiller or matter owner, you can disable attorney client privilege on a legal matter to remove privileged and confidential status. The remove action is available only when the matter is in the Assigned or Work in
progress state. You can not change the Privileged and Confidential status of matters in Closed Complete, Closed Incomplete, or Cancelled states.

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllLegal RequestLegal Counsel Center.
2. Click the list icon (![List icon]()).
3. In the Lists tab, open a legal matter by selecting an option under Matters.

   | Option | Steps |
   | As an assignee | 1. Select the Assigned to Me option. 2. Select a legal matter to work on. 3. If the legal matter is newly assigned to you, select Start to start working on it. 4. Disable Privileged and Confidential status.
   1. Click the More actions icon (![More actions icon]()).
   2. Select Remove Privileged and Confidential.  
   3. In the confirmation modal enter work notes and select Disable.

## Result

* The Privileged and Confidential status is removed.
* The assignment group permission is retained as it was before removing the privileged and confidential status.
* Privileged and Confidential field in the secondary header is changed to Disabled.
* In the Privileged Document Access tab, the document permissions is reset to Public.
* Stakeholders are notified of the change.
