## Configuration overview {#configuring-planned-work-management__section_vjw_1xh_jcc}

   Install the Planned Work Management application (com.snc.fsm_planned_work_management) if you have the admin role.
2. (Optional) [Use extension point for planned work management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Ro_5EtKA4_FLpGeyXVViIQ "Extension points enable you to extend the functionality of an application and integrate customizations without altering the application code. Extension points are stored in the Extension Point [sys_extension_point] table.")

3. [Configuring work plans](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/DRGEZXF1AyUqhcURvgJP8A "Planned Work Management enables you to create, maintain, and schedule flexible work plans for any recurring activity that requires regular maintenance.")

   Create a work plan for a product model, or other criteria, such as location or asset. For example, you can set up the work schedule to specify that service is performed every six months for
   the first two years from the date of purchase, or after completing 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
4. (Optional) [Configure schedule occurrence suppression](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/FErvSnJW5~XjIIKcwjbcuQ "Streamline and optimize maintenance activities by suppressing duplicate planned work tasks when different schedules overlap.")

   Suppress duplicate planned work tasks when different schedules overlap.
5. (Optional) [Configure work order grouping for a work plan](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/LeF4gMLZw_s4nbBh_ApH1g "Group multiple work orders for a work plan into a single work order based on the defined criteria.")
