Summary of Use agentic AI in Now Assist for Integrated Risk Management (IRM)

ServiceNow's Now Assist for Integrated Risk Management (IRM) enables customers to use agentic AI agents and workflows to automate specific outcomes within IRM processes. Agentic AI can be deployed either as part of automated workflows or as standalone AI agents, depending on your license and access. This feature leverages large language models (LLMs) to enhance automation and decision-making in risk management.

    Key Features

    • Agentic AI Workflows: Use agents within agentic workflows to automate tasks and achieve defined outcomes. Workflows and agents must be activated and configured properly for autonomous operation.
    • Standalone AI Agents: Access AI agents installed with Now Assist or discover additional agents via the AI Agent Marketplace for specific IRM needs outside of workflows.
    • Supported LLM Providers: Now Assist supports multiple LLM providers including Now LLM Service, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude on AWS. Azure OpenAI is recommended for IRM agentic workflows.
    • Configuration Controls: Use the AI Control Tower to manage available AI model options, and set preferences per skill in the Now Assist Admin console.
    • Security Controls: Implement access control lists (ACLs) and user identity management to securely execute AI agents and workflows. The Run As capability allows agents to perform actions as dynamic or AI users, ensuring compliance with security policies.

    Practical Application

    • To run autonomous AI agents, duplicate and activate the desired agentic workflows and all associated agents, then activate unique triggers to invoke workflows automatically.
    • Manual invocation of agentic workflows is possible by activating workflows and agents without enabling triggers.
    • Review your ServiceNow license to understand which generative AI skills, workflows, and agents are available to you.
    • Consider security settings carefully to ensure AI executions comply with organizational policies and access controls.
    • Explore standalone AI agents for additional IRM automation capabilities beyond workflows.

    What You Can Expect

By leveraging agentic AI in Now Assist for IRM, customers can automate complex risk management tasks with intelligent, configurable AI agents, improving efficiency and consistency. The integration with multiple LLM providers and robust security controls ensures scalable, secure AI-driven risk management aligned with enterprise policies.

Use agents within an agentic workflow or as standalone agents to achieve specific automated outcomes.

    Note:
Depending on your license, you will have access to certain application features, generative AI skills, agentic workflows, and AI agents. For more information, see ServiceNow product tiers.

Find information such as the large language models (LLM) supported in Now Assist and security controls that are important considerations for using agentic AI.

    Note:

    Security implementation considerations

Enable security implementation to execute AI agents and agentic workflows through access control lists (ACLs) and user identities. ACLs provide the Run As capability to let agents and agentic workflows execute actions either as a dynamic user or as an AI user. For more information, see Implement access control in Now Assist AI agents.

Considerations for running the autonomous AI Agents

    Important:
By default, all agent workflow and AI agent records are read-only.

To run the AI agents autonomously, you must first duplicate the agentic workflow, and then proceed with the following steps:

    • Activate the agentic workflow.
    • Activate all agents within the agentic workflow.
    • Activate the trigger to invoke the agentic workflow automatically. The triggers for each agentic workflow must be unique. If you prefer to invoke it manually, activating the trigger isn’t necessary.
    • Azure OpenAI is recommended for Now Assist for IRM agentic workflows.
