# Administering Developer Sandboxes data {#ariaid-title1}

To define how data is populated in Developer Sandboxes, admins must configure Data Generation Profiles and templates that call the
profiles.
Developer Sandboxes provides developers the ability to request, access, and manage individual sandboxes on top of the same underlying development instance. Developers can write and merge code and configuration
changes without the risk of their changes getting over-written on the instance mid-development.

## Configuration overview {#configuring-sandboxes__cf-config-parent-checklist}

1. [Create a Data Generation Profile](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/o92jxn1U3hhY7k1LRfcwew "Create a Data Generation Profile to generate data such as incidents or users for your sandbox. Data Generation Profiles are associated with Developer Sandboxes Templates, so they can run and generate synthetic development data when a sandbox is allocated.")

   Create a Data Generation Profile to specify what data to generate for a sandbox template.
2. [Using sandbox templates](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/HhqaUSleO0HnHlIOB9X_Mg "Developer Sandboxes templates are being deprecated, and should no longer be used.")

   Create a reusable template for Developer Sandboxes.
