# Manage tasks and approvals

# Managing AI tasks and approvals in Activity Center {#ariaid-title1}

Release version: Australia
Updated July 17, 2026
![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 3 minutes to read
Track and resolve the governance work that AI Control Tower generates as your AI portfolio grows, such as lifecycle tasks, security tasks, cases, and risk assessments.

As AI Control Tower discovers new assets, evaluates their quality and safety, monitors them for risk and security concerns, and tracks their progress through the lifecycle, it produces a continuous stream of
items that need human judgment. AI Control Tower routes these items to the people who can act on them and gives those people a single workspace, Activity Center, to track and resolve the items. For the AI-generated recommendations
that Activity Center also surfaces, see [Resolving AI recommendations in Activity Center](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/YyvrK4Lt2xLlA~Jd0y01TQ "Resolve the AI recommendations that AI Control Tower generates when it detects an issue or an opportunity in your AI portfolio, using AI automation, a guided AI conversation, or your own review.").

## Types of governance work {#aict-managing-tasks-and-approvals__types-of-work}

Activity Center surfaces the following governance work:

Lifecycle tasks
: Tasks generated by AI asset lifecycle playbooks as managed assets move
through the onboarding, assessment, build and test, deployment, and
offboarding stages. Lifecycle tasks include impact assessments,
architecture reviews, security clearances, and other reviews that must be
completed before an asset can advance to the next stage. For more
information, see [AI asset lifecycle tasks](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/E8yMFc5NIFm2hm4ZcFEgRQ "Advance managed AI assets through controlled stages of governance by completing the reviews, assessments, and approvals that AI asset lifecycle playbooks require.").

Security tasks
: Tasks generated when AI Control Tower detects a security threat, policy violation, or access concern on a managed AI asset. Security tasks route to the AI steward or security team responsible for the affected
asset. For more information, see [Security tasks](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/eDC6ceUwwRBhwf7rgBwizQ "Address security threats, policy violations, and access issues on managed AI assets by acting on the security tasks the system generates for AI stewards and security reviewers.").

Requests
: Change requests and offboarding requests submitted by asset owners that
require AI steward review and approval. A change request initiates a
controlled update to a managed asset, such as switching the AI model
backing an agent. An offboarding request initiates the retirement of an
asset. For more information, see [Change and offboarding requests](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Loz~OeHDCShhkrjws46QZA "Make controlled changes to a managed AI asset, or retire an asset that is no longer needed, by submitting a request for AI steward review and approval.").

Cases
: A structured investigation into an incident affecting a managed AI asset,
such as a suspected security breach, data exposure, or policy violation.
For more information, see [AI cases](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/vCTiejYzRwPUqTZZEjt7zg "Investigate and document an incident affecting an AI asset, such as a suspected security breach, data exposure, or policy violation, using a structured case record.").

Risk assessments
: An evaluation of a managed AI asset's inherent, control, and residual risk
that AI Control Tower generates automatically when the asset is onboarded or its use and purpose changes. For more information, see [Risk assessments](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/cN0RxA4xyuJ41BEo94p4Uw "Complete a risk assessment that AI Control Tower generates automatically for a managed AI asset, evaluating its inherent, control, and residual risk.").

Issues
: A tracked problem identified with a managed AI asset that needs a
resolution or an action plan, such as a gap surfaced during a governance
review. For more information, see [Issues](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/NzrZe2I5bkknkr83__MIRw "Track a problem identified with an AI asset, such as a performance or compliance gap, through to resolution with a documented action plan.").

Attestations
: A request to acknowledge a compliance policy that applies to a managed AI
asset, generated automatically when the policy requires acknowledgment
from the asset's steward or owner. For more information, see [Attestations](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/KenGIFD8Evl4ksDPYcFznQ "Respond to a request to acknowledge a compliance policy that applies to a managed AI asset you own or steward.").

Policy exceptions
: An approved, time-bound deviation from a policy or control objective that
applies to a managed AI asset. For more information, see [Policy exceptions](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/cD~pKDVqaWzhBUsAvGiDCw "Request an approved, time-bound deviation from a policy or control objective that applies to an AI asset.").

Inquiries
: A general request for information or clarification related to AI
governance, such as a question about a policy, a process, or a specific AI
asset. For more information, see [AI inquiries](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Fp2FGY3LKgkY~AjAGpaBsg "Ask a question or request information related to AI governance, such as a question about a policy, a process, or a specific AI asset.").

## Where governance work appears {#aict-managing-tasks-and-approvals__where-it-appears}

Governance work surfaces in three places in AI Control Tower:

Home page
: The Top action items widget on the Home page shows a prioritized snapshot of recommendations, tasks assigned to you, and unassigned tasks. Use this widget to start each session with the items that most need your
attention. For more information, see [AI portfolio overview](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/a4K12GTWpY3LUSIe4G5wKg "Act on the AI governance work that matters most, review the state of your AI portfolio, and track the value your AI assets deliver on the Home page in AI Control Tower.").

Activity Center
: Activity Center is the full workspace for governance work. On the
Work page, it organizes work by ownership
across the Team, Assigned to you, Unassigned, and
Submitted by you tabs. Use Activity Center to
filter, group, and work through items at scale. For more information, see
[Activity Center](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/jYWhx1KSM0nillT3chhMNA "Track and act on the governance work generated across AI Control Tower from a single workspace, including lifecycle tasks, security tasks, change and offboarding requests, and AI recommendations."). AI-generated recommendations
appear on a separate Recommendations page within
Activity Center; see [Resolving AI recommendations in Activity Center](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/YyvrK4Lt2xLlA~Jd0y01TQ "Resolve the AI recommendations that AI Control Tower generates when it detects an issue or an opportunity in your AI portfolio, using AI automation, a guided AI conversation, or your own review.").

AI asset records
: The Needs attention section on the Overview tab of an asset record shows the recommendations and tasks scoped to that single asset, under the same
Recommendations, Assigned to you, and Unassigned sub-tabs as the Top action items widget on the Home page. Use this section when you're investigating an asset and want
to see the open governance items that apply to it without leaving the record. For more information, see [Working with AI asset records](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/IMP4iJYdv_OXD3xVLe~CTw "An asset record consolidates the state of a single AI asset and the actions you can take on it, so you can understand the asset's situation and respond from one page.").
