# Configure

# Configuring MCP Server Console {#ariaid-title1}

Release version: Brazil
Updated September 10, 2026
![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 1 minute to read
Create a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and configure the tools and inputs it exposes to MCP clients.

## Configuration overview {#configuring-mcp-server-console__cf-config-parent-checklist}

1. [Create a Model Context Protocol server](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/rDabcPQm3xJMbjy6JGPQIQ "Create a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and configure which tools it exposes to MCP clients.")

   An AI administrator creates a server and adds tools to the server.
2.
   * Out-of-box tools
     * Access the out-of-box tools of platform and business specific types to manage capabilities that AI agents and other clients can use through your MCP servers.
     * You can also clone these default tools into fully editable copies by selecting Create like option.
       Important:
       The minimum version required to access this feature is Australia patch 6 and Brazil patch 0.

       <br />

       When the OOB source tool is updated, the clone owner gets a notification and can easily pull the update into their copy.
     {#configuring-mcp-server-console__ul_ujw_hzq_hkc}
   * If additional tools are needed, the AI administrator identifies which functionality to expose and creates tools based on AI skills. From the tools, they configure which fields are exposed to clients as tool inputs.

   Tip:
   Creation of custom tools requires configuring the tool's from the scratch. However, cloning a default tool presents pre-filled fields on the tools creation form.
3. [Create an MCP app](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Uc5qRp20BfXTTnuYFuMPWA "Build, register, and display user interfaces along with your tool's logic with MCP apps. This allows you to implement and manage interactive interfaces for your tools that can be displayed by MCP clients.")

   Optionally, the AI administrator can also create an MCP app to deliver an interactive interface for tools that can be displayed by clients.

After configuring a server, the AI administrator configures OAuth inbound integrations for each client or configures an integration with a third-party identity provider (IDP) for authentication. Then they can configure clients to
connect to the server using the server and authentication details. For more information, see [Connecting to an MCP server from an MCP client](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/RUIGE_HMKhmkdgwtl0RA1A "Connect to a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server from an MCP client by creating an OAuth inbound integration and configuring the client with the server details.").
* **[Create a Model Context Protocol server](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/rDabcPQm3xJMbjy6JGPQIQ)**

  You can create tools from various tool categories to expose ServiceNow capabilities to Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients from MCP servers.
* **[Create an MCP app](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Uc5qRp20BfXTTnuYFuMPWA)**
  Build, register, and display user interfaces along with your tool's logic with MCP apps. This allows you to implement and manage interactive interfaces for your tools that can be displayed by MCP clients.
* **[Monitoring dashboard](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/J6bbJ9RtMOekPO8PNLtY5g)**
  Explore MCP Server monitoring dashboard to review the performance and usage of the MCP servers and tools in a specific time frame.
* **[Create an AI ACL for a Subflow or Action](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/nJq5BlA4vRa32QituU4eyg)**
  Create the necessary AI Access Control List (ACL) for the component to be called externally.
* **[Check the compatibility of a Subflow or Action](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/2q7xB0~HIuCCfEodsInjSw)**
  After establishing the ACL, publish the component and check the compatibility staging table.
