# Configure Hardware Model Normalization

# Configure Hardware Model Normalization {#ariaid-title1}

Release version: Brazil
Updated September 10, 2026
![](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/portal-asset/ico-clock) 1 minute to read
Hardware Model Normalization standardizes manufacturer, model, and model number data across asset records using the Hardware Asset Management
Content Service. Normalized data improves the accuracy of asset reporting, lifecycle planning, and cost analysis. Configure hardware normalization before asset managers begin creating or managing hardware
models.

When you opt in to Hardware Model Normalization, HAM compares asset model data against the Content Library and applies standardized values for manufacturer name, model name, model number, and end-of-life and end-of-support dates. You can also create custom models for hardware asset that is not available
in the Content Library.

* **[Create a hardware or consumable model](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/0WpK0S~qe5AqHKvbOU5iuQ)**
  To begin tracking your hardware and consumable assets, create a hardware or consumable model. Then, add lifecycle information to keep track of the lifecycle phase of your model.
* **[Copy a hardware model from the Content lookup portal](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/B2LLaCLrnUuwzLTTp4dqIA)**
  Copy a hardware model record from the Content lookup portal to add a new model entry to the Product Model \[cmdb_model\] table.
* **[Normalize hardware and consumable models](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/vDyTP6giVeyfBmUdmiekNg)**
  After you have created your hardware and consumable models, normalize the information of the model.
* **[Add a custom product](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/VeDpdubHH73Vi_MwU5pSnw)**
  If you have a product that is not represented in the Asset Management Content Service yet, you can create a custom product.
* **[Add a custom hardware model](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/lUHAxHdutiaC8ycAV7Y9Yw)**
  If you have a hardware model that isn't represented in the Asset Management Content Service yet, you can create a custom model.
* **[Revert normalization of hardware and consumable models](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bmYVuT7p2Xkik0uUWXuZYA)**
  Revert the normalization of hardware and consumable models in the Hardware Asset Workspace.
