Use the default playbook or configure a custom one to capture required information for a demand and support governance processes.

## Before you begin

Role required: it_demand_user or it_demand_manager.

## About this task

A playbook defines the standard stages of a demand (for example, Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, and Closure) and includes activities or action items to complete at each stage.
Note:
This task describes how to use a playbook to manage demand information in a guided, stage-based workflow. To find out how to update demand information on the Details page of the demand record, see [Update demand details](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/_I0mJcEUCbi76p_mke4Fqg "Update the details of a demand record in Next Experience for Demand Management to reflect any changes in scope, priority, or capacity.").

## Procedure

1. Navigate to WorkspacesPortfolio Planning Workspace.
2. Select the Demands icon ![]().
3. Open a demand from the List page.
4. Select the Playbook tab.
5. Select a stage to view its activities.
Each activity displays its status (In Progress, Pending, or Complete) and the fields or lists to update.
6. Address the activities within each stage.
   * To mark the activity as done and move to the next activity, select Mark Complete.
   * To save your progress without completing the activity, select Save.
   * To bypass the activity and move to the next one, select Skip.
   * To revisit or edit completed or skipped activities. you have to select Restart. These states set the activity to read-only.

   Note:
Some stages advance the state when all activities in the stage are complete and don't require manual action.
