# Create a demand

# Create a demand {#ariaid-title1}

Create demands to capture the strategic and operational requirements and centralize information for stakeholder assessment and prioritization.

## Before you begin

Role required: it_demand_manager, it_demand_user

## About this task

By default, a new demand opens in its Details page. If you want your demands to land on a different page on creation, the related system property can be modified. See [Configure the landing page for created demand records](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/zTjtI0ga8CgQJOtTddOXSA "Configure a system property that controls which tab opens when a demand record is created. Set this property to match your team's workflow.").

## Procedure

1. Navigate to WorkspacesStrategic Planning Workspace.
2. Select the Demands icon ![]().
3. Select New.
4. On the Demand form, fill in the fields.

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Name | Name of the demand. |
   | Category | Category of the demand. The available values are: * Strategic: For demands for plans, such as projects or stories. These demands go through strategic evaluation and prioritization regardless of scope, from large initiatives, such as a project or epic, to smaller, well-defined changes, such as a story. * Operational: For demands for operational work, such as changes or defects. These demands address business-as-usual work that doesn't require strategic evaluation or prioritization. {#create-demand-from-dw__ul_zn1_ymf_cp} |
   | Type | The Category field selection determines the selections available in the Type field. * The following demand types are available if the demand category is Strategic: * Enhancement * Project * Epic * Story * EAP Epic * EAP Feature * EAP Capability * No Conversion {#create-demand-from-dw__ul_pxn_rqs_nfc} * The following demand types are available if the category is Operational: * Change * Defect * No Conversion {#create-demand-from-dw__ul_ngn_crs_nfc} {#create-demand-from-dw__ul_cns_dqs_nfc}For more information, see [Demand form](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/OsiYchuOULJFDI4HRnJz0g "The demand form information is used to create a demand."). |
   | Start date | The preliminary or estimated date when the work is initially planned to begin. Note: The Start date column label is changed to Planned start date. This change is applicable only for new customers who begin using the Australia version. To facilitate continuity, you continue to see the prior labels. |
   | Due date | The preliminary or estimated date when the planned work is expected to be completed. Note: The Due date column label is changed to Planned end date. This change is applicable only for new customers who begin using the Australia version. To facilitate continuity, you continue to see the prior labels. |
   | Description | Description of the demand. |

5. Select Create.  
   The created demand opens in the Details page.
