Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery
The Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery enables ServiceNow customers to identify and map Amazon EventBridge Event Buses within their AWS cloud environments. This discovery utilizes the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application, which must be updated to the latest version to ensure compatibility and receive ongoing updates. The discovery process populates data into both CMDB and non-CMDB tables, enriching the Configuration Management Database with detailed EventBridge Event Bus information.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation: The EventBridge Event Bus discovery pattern is disabled by default and must be enabled manually. With Visibility Content version 6.28.0 and later, enabling or disabling patterns is streamlined and updates are preserved across upgrades.
- Prerequisites and Configuration: Customers need to verify AWS discovery prerequisites and ensure relevant resources are not in the Resource Inclusion List to prevent duplicate discovery. For AWS GovCloud accounts, service account setup requires specific datacenter URL configuration.
- Data Storage: The discovery populates non-CMDB tables for extended inventory data and CMDB tables for core configuration items. Key tables include:
- cmdbawseventbridgeeventbus: Stores Event Bus name, ARN, and resource-based policy.
- cmdbcicloudmessagingservice: Represents the Event Bus as a Configuration Item with details such as type, install status, and operational status.
- cmdbkeyvalue: Captures AWS tags associated with Event Buses for flexible tagging and management.
- Relationship Mapping: The discovery creates relationships between Event Buses and their hosting AWS Datacenter, supporting comprehensive cloud infrastructure mapping.
Practical Benefits for ServiceNow Customers
- Enables automated detection and accurate mapping of Amazon EventBridge Event Buses, enhancing cloud asset visibility.
- Supports compliance and governance by capturing policies and operational statuses directly within the CMDB.
- Improves cloud resource management through tag collection, aiding in categorization and reporting.
- Facilitates integration with other ServiceNow modules by establishing clear relationships between Event Buses and AWS infrastructure components.
- Ensures up-to-date discovery capabilities through pattern version management and simplified activation processes.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Amazon EventBridge Event Buses on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in AWS discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see AWS Resource Inventory discovery with Patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.
