# Use the DrawString component

Draw a string on an image at a specific location and set the string's color, font
style, and size as part of an automation Workflow by using the DrawString
component in RPA Desktop Design Studio.

## About this task

You can configure the properties for the DrawString component. For more information
about these properties, see [Properties of the Image Utilities components](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/JLDG~BNnU_7Z~QG3H7AmxQ "Learn about the properties of the Image Utilities components in RPA Desktop Design Studio.").

## Procedure

1. In the Toolbox pane, navigate to UtilitiesImage Utilities.
2. Drag the DrawString component to the Design surface.
3. To configure the input fields, see [Configure port properties](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/d92L75lHSFmmidzeOPPgTw "Configure how data is passed to the input fields of a component or method in RPA Desktop Design Studio.").
4. Connect the data and control ports of the DrawString component to the corresponding ports of the other components as described in the following table.

   | Data In (Image) | Takes the image on which the method draws a string from a previously executed component. | Yes |
   | Data In (Text) | Takes the text string from a previously executed component. | Yes |
   | Data In (Top) | Takes the top measurement from a previously executed component. | No |
   | Data In (Left) | Takes the left measurement from a previously executed component. | No |
   | Data In (Color) | Takes the color of the string in hex values from a previously executed component. | Yes |
   | Data In (Font) | Takes the font of the string in from a previously executed component. | No |
   | Data In (FontSize) | Takes the font size of the string from a previously executed component. | No |
   | Data Out | Returns the image after drawing a rectangle with the specified dimensions. | Yes. To preview the data, right-click the Return field and click Preview Data. |
   | Control In | Connects to the Control Out port of one or more components. | Yes |
   | Control Out | Connects to the Control In port of any other component. | No. Connecting the port is optional. |

5. **Optional:** To test the component, under the DESIGN tab, click Run.
