Plugins, apps, integrations, and products
Learn the difference between plugins, apps, integrations, and products, and understand the role each plays in the ServiceNow AI Platform.
Plugins
A plugin is a set of customizations that extends the functionality of the ServiceNow AI Platform and any apps already installed on your instance. Some plugins are pre-activated in your instance, while others might need to be activated manually by you or by ServiceNow personnel.
New plugins are made available during instance upgrades in accordance with your organization's ServiceNow licensing agreement. Plugins can’t be purchased through the ServiceNow Store.
For more information about plugins, see ServiceNow plugins.
Applications/apps
An application is a standalone piece of code that implements a collection of features on the ServiceNow AI Platform. You can try, buy, or get apps according to your ServiceNow licensing agreement through the ServiceNow Store.
After getting an app from the ServiceNow Store, install it using the Application Manager. For more information, see Application Manager.
You can also create your own apps. For more information about creating apps for your ServiceNow AI Platform instance, see Building applications.
Integrations
An integration is a type of app that connects your instance to various systems outside the ServiceNow ecosystem, helping to streamline the flow of data within your organization. Integrations can be procured from the ServiceNow Store, either on their own or as part of a product.
Products
Products are collections of apps that work together to add additional features and capabilities to your ServiceNow AI Platform instance.
For more information about procuring products, see Getting products.
