On a critical event record, the Notification center has preformatted communication templates that agents can send to impacted people and on-site responders during critical
situations.

The notification center serves as a centralized hub for creating, viewing, and managing communications during an ongoing or new critical event. This feature is used to send mass notifications or to coordinate directly with on-site
responders or employees.

When you navigate to the notification center tab for a new critical event, you can start a new communication task by selecting the Create new communication button. For more information, see [Create a communication task](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/JdBHesXYeSU_VCeWP0r1IA "Create an on-demand, customized message for a critical event in Critical Event Management, choose how often to send it, and select the communication channels.").

You can compose an email for mass notification by using the available email templates or editing the email body to suit your specific need. The email templates promote consistency and save time. For more information on email templates,
see [CEM email templates](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/XGoKkKLs4LDWnL~xKzeRIQ "Various email templates are available depending on the purpose of the communication, whether it's for employees, or on-site responders.").

## Example use case {#notification-templates__section_rx1_bbp_4dc}

For a scenario where you want to notify on-site responders to start a roll call at the affected location of the critical event:

* Use Activate on-site responders in the short description field when creating the communication task.
* Use the Roll-call start template to help responders receive a clear and actionable notification.
