## Summary of Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds

The Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds enables ServiceNow customers to import asset inventory data---both hardware and software---from SolarWinds into the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
This connector supports integration with SolarWinds Orion versions starting from 2019.4 HF6 and 2020.2.1 HF2, and is compatible with ServiceNow versions Washington, DC, Xanadu, and Yokohama.
It facilitates automated normalization and synchronization of asset data related to hardware, virtualization, cloud resources, and software.

## Configuring the Connector

Configuration is primarily handled through the SGC Central view available in the Service Graph Workspace or CMDB Workspace. This interface allows customers to discover, install, and manage connectors throughout their lifecycle including creation, editing, monitoring, and debugging. It is recommended to use SGC Central rather than the guided setup, which is being deprecated.

## Monitoring and Management

The Integration Commons for CMDB app provides a centralized dashboard, the CMDB Integrations Dashboard, where customers can monitor the status, results, and errors of all Service Graph Connector integrations, including SolarWinds. This dashboard supports filtering by integration, time period, or specific runs to streamline troubleshooting and performance tracking.

## Data Mapping and Target Tables

Data from SolarWinds is mapped and transformed into ServiceNow CMDB tables using the Robust Transform Engine (RTE), and inserted using the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE). Data is initially loaded into staging tables before being moved into target CMDB classes. These classes encompass a wide range of configuration items such as servers (Windows, Linux, UNIX, Solaris), network components, cloud resources, software installations, and relationships among CIs. Notably, software data is mapped differently depending on whether the Software Asset Management (SAM) application is installed.

Customers can view and manage these data maps using the IntegrationHub ETL application for detailed insight into the data transformation process.
Use the Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds to pull in data from the SolarWinds software into your ServiceNow instance.

The Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds pulls in asset inventory data (hardware and software) from the SolarWinds database into the ServiceNow®
Configuration Management Database (CMDB) application.

## Configuring a connection for the connector {#cmdb-integration-solarwinds__section_i4s_lgz_12b}

You can configure a connection for the connector by using the SGC Central view in the Service Graph Workspace or CMDB Workspace. The view enables you to discover and install connectors, and then effectively manage the full life cycle of creating, editing, monitoring, and debugging connections. To configure the connector using SGC Central, see [Configure Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds using SGC Central](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/WzDicShyPEzuUcPJmO3L5Q "Use the playbook available with the SGC Central application to set up the Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds for pulling in SolarWinds data into the CMDB.").
Important:
Unless there are configuration issues, use the SGC Central view in the Service Graph Workspace or CMDB Workspace to configure the connection for the connector, as the guided setup method is planned for deprecation.

## CMDB integrations dashboard {#cmdb-integration-solarwinds__section_ap2_3bx_pmb}

The Integration Commons for CMDB store app provides a dashboard with a central view of the status, processing results, and processing errors of all installed Service Graph Connectors. You can see metrics for all integration runs. You can filter the view to a specific integration, a specific time duration, or a specific integration run. For more details about monitoring SolarWinds integrations in the CMDB Integrations Dashboard, see [Using the CMDB Integrations Dashboard](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/6UR2b9oa6teU8Ntvkupjzg#integration-commons-for-cmdb__section_fxg_lh4_blb).

## Data mapping {#cmdb-integration-solarwinds__section_w1m_mhf_hkb}

Data from data sources in the SolarWinds software is mapped and transformed into ServiceNow
CMDB tables using the Robust Transform Engine (RTE). Data is inserted into ServiceNow
CMDB using the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE).

When you complete setting up the connection, you can configure the integration to periodically pull data from the SolarWinds software.
The data is loaded into staging tables and then inserted into the following CMDB target tables:

* AIX Server \[cmdb_ci_aix_server\]
* Availability Zone \[cmdb_ci_availability_zone\]
* CI Relationship \[cmdb_rel_ci\]
* Cloud Network \[cmdb_ci_network\]
* Cloud Service Account \[cmdb_ci_cloud_service_account\]

* Hardware Type \[cmdb_ci_compute_template\]
* Hyper-V Server \[cmdb_ci_hyper_v_server\]
* IIS Virtual Directory \[cmdb_ci_iisdirectory\]
* Image \[cmdb_ci_os_template\]
* IP Address \[cmdb_ci_ip_address\]
* Linux Server \[cmdb_ci_linux_server\]
* Logical Datacenter \[cmdb_ci_logical_datacenter\]

For more information on where data is saved when pulling data from SolarWinds, see [CMDB classes targeted in Service Graph Connector for SolarWinds](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/kppsp5civpqL2WzNWVG6rA "When you complete setting up the connection, you can configure the integration to periodically pull data from SolarWinds. The data is saved in tables that extend from the Configuration item [cmdb_ci] table.").

You can use the IntegrationHub ETL app to view the data maps. See [IntegrationHub ETL](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/MvUnD_GHFcty25xoT_q32Q "Use the IntegrationHub ETL store app to create and manage ETL transform maps, which integrate third-party data into the CMDB or into non-CMDB tables without compromising the integrity of data.
