## Summary of Unified Map

The Unified Map feature in ServiceNow offers a graphical, hierarchical visualization of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), displaying Configuration Items (CIs) and their interconnections.
It integrates capabilities from Dependency Views and Service Mapping to provide a comprehensive map experience.
Unified Map is included in both Service Graph Workspace and CMDB Workspace, helping users understand CI relationships and impacts effectively.
Show full answer Show less
This visualization aids in assessing the impact of changes to specific CIs by showing connected CIs through various relationships, supporting processes such as Change Management, Incident Management, and Event Management. When Service Mapping is active, the map also illustrates service instance compositions, allowing users to view all CIs belonging to a particular service instance.

## Accessing Unified Map

* Navigate via All \> Service Graph Workspace \> Unified Map
* Navigate via All \> CMDB Workspace \> Unified Map
* Use "Use Unified Map" in the Recommended tools section within Service Graph Workspace
* Use "Unified Map" in Quick Links within CMDB Workspace
* From any operational CI form, select "Open Map" to center the map on that CI (administrators can configure which operational statuses enable this)

Full-screen viewing is available by selecting the Unpin All icon.

## Key Features

* **Map Display:** Visualizes CIs as nodes and connections as relationships or references, indicating dependencies, ownership, and more. Solid lines indicate relationships with arrowheads showing dependency direction; dashed lines indicate references. Multiple relationships between two CIs are shown with badges.
* **Content Controls:** Users can specify the home node, define the number of relationship levels shown, and apply filters by layer count, CI class, relationship type, discovery source, location, and ownership. Filters can hide or dim irrelevant CIs for focused analysis.
* **Timeline:** Shows related incidents, problems, and changes over time for selected CIs, enabling visualization of change history and its impact on CMDB topology.
* **Map Editor:** Allows addition or removal of CIs and updates to CI relationships directly on the map, supporting CMDB maintenance.
* **Toolbox:** Controls visual aspects such as zoom and layout mode, and enables exporting the map view as a PDF.
* **Contextual Side Panel:** Includes multiple panels to provide detailed information on the selected CI:
  * Overview: Summary of all associated CIs and connections
  * Attributes: Lists CI or relationship attributes like location and operational status
  * Service Instances: Displays details of mapped application services (requires Service Mapping)
  * Related Items: Shows related incidents, problems, and changes
  * Changes: Lists lifecycle and operational state changes with timeline integration
* **Mini-map Navigator:** Facilitates zooming and panning to areas of interest on the map.

## Benefits for ServiceNow Customers

Unified Map provides a unified, interactive visualization of your CMDB data and service topology, enabling faster impact analysis, improved change risk assessment, and enhanced operational insight. By integrating with key ITSM processes and Service Mapping, it helps streamline incident and event management by clearly showing service compositions and CI relationships. The feature supports CMDB accuracy through direct map editing and offers flexible filtering and timeline views to tailor analysis to specific operational needs.
The Unified Map feature displays a graphical hierarchical map of the CMDB --- CIs and the connections between them. Unified Map combines some of the capabilities of Dependency Views and of Service Mapping into a single map experience.

## Unified Map {#cmdb-workspace-unified-map__section_whz_4m1_sbc}

Unified Map is included in Service Graph Workspace and CMDB Workspace.

Nodes on the map represent CIs in the CMDB and lines represent connections between CIs (relationships, references, and other kinds of connection). The relationships help you, for example, to assess the impact of a change
to a selected node by showing CIs that are connected to it through relationships. Products such as [Change Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_ITILChangeManagement&version=brazil&pubname=brazil-it-service-management&ft:locale=en-US), [Incident Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_IncidentManagement&version=brazil&pubname=brazil-it-service-management&ft:locale=en-US), and [Event Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_EM&version=brazil&pubname=brazil-it-operations-management&ft:locale=en-US) benefit from such information.

When the Service Mapping application is active, the map also shows the composition of service instances --- useful with products such as [Event Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_EM&version=brazil&pubname=brazil-it-operations-management&ft:locale=en-US) and [Incident Management](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=c_IncidentManagement&version=brazil&pubname=brazil-it-service-management&ft:locale=en-US). For example, you can view all CIs that are members of the 'Revenue App' service instance. You can review historical changes and then, for example, filter the CIs so that only
application CIs appear on the map.

## Opening a map {#cmdb-workspace-unified-map__id_tvw_th2_kfc}
