Open Desktop Assistant

  • Open or log in to Desktop Assistant to get an easy access to ServiceNow functionalities such as your applications, system activity, your requests, network speed of your system, and Employee Center.

    Before you begin

    Ensure that both the DEX Desktop Assistant plugin [sn_dex_desktop] plugin and the Desktop Assistant application have been installed. For more information, see Install DEX Desktop Assistant and Download and install Desktop Assistant.

    Role required: sn_dex_desktop.user or sn_dex_desktop.admin

    About this task

    If you see the Incompatibility application version detected message, contact the administrator.

    Note:
    The administrator should navigate to Install DEX Desktop Assistant on their instance and use one of the provided methods to install the latest version of Desktop Assistant.

    Procedure

    1. From your system tray, right-click the Desktop Assistant icon (Desktop Experience icon using which you can open Desktop Assistant and use its functionalities.) and then select Open.
      The Desktop Assistant login window appears.
      Login page where you can enter the instance URL.
    2. In the Instance URL field, enter the ServiceNow instance URL.
    3. Click Next.
      The authentication window opens.
      Login page where you can enter the username and password.
      If you can't remember your login details, use the Forgot password? feature to reset your password.
    4. Perform any one of the following actions to login:
      • When you do not have Single Sign-On (SSO):
        • In the Username and Password field, enter the username and password for the instance.
        • Click Log in.
        • Allow Desktop Assistant to connect to your ServiceNow account by clicking Allow.

          Note:
          To have a SSO login, you should set up the SSO provider and configure SSO in the instance. To know more about configuring SSO, see Configure OAuth details.
      • When you have Single Sign-On (SSO):
        • Click the Login with SSO link.
          Login page where you can enter the user id.
        • In the User ID field, enter the your user ID.
        • Click Submit.
          You are redirected to the SSO login screen.
          The SSO login page where you can enter the username and password.
        • In the Username and Password field, enter your username and password.
        • Click Sign in.
        • Allow Desktop Assistant to connect to your ServiceNow account by clicking Allow.

    Result

    The Desktop Assistant Home page opens.
