Request a new version for a product

    Role required: sn_dpr_model.product_manager

    About this task

    When linking a plan version from ServiceNow® Agile Development 2.0, Jira, or GitLab, you can select the Auto-create product versions from plan versions option. Selecting this option automatically creates a product version associated with one of the following, depending on the tool you select:
    • A Fix version created in Jira.
    • A Milestone created in GitLab.
    • A Release created in Agile Development 2.0.
    You don't need to manually create a product version and plan product enhancements, as the tool will sync with the respective planning tools during the import process.

    Procedure

    1. Navigate to Workspaces > Digital Product Release Workspace.
    2. Select the products icon (Products icon.).
    3. Select a product from the list to open.
    4. Select the Versions tab to add a version for the product.
    5. On the Versions tab, add or modify a version.
      • To add a new version, select Request version.
      • To modify an existing version, select it from the list.

        Follow the steps from Step 8 onwards.

    6. On the Request version dialog box, fill in the fields.

      Name Name of the version.
      Version Version identifier.
      Short description Brief details about the version.
    7. Select Submit.
      A request is submitted to create a version and triggers the Request Product Version flow. The flow runs to auto-approve the request and creates a product version.
      Note:
      You can modify the Request Product Version flow in Flow Designer according to your business needs.
      The product version is saved in the Software Model [cmdb_software_product_model] table.

      The new version is listed in the Versions tab and select the version name from the list to open the Version record view.

    8. Optional: On the Details tab, update the status of the version in Status.
    9. Optional: Select the attachment icon (Attachment icon.) to open the Attachments pane to select and upload a file related to the version.
    10. Select Save.

    What to do next

    If the product is associated with a plan and the version is not already associated with a plan version, you can select the Link to plan version to create an association between them. When the association is established, all product enhancements belonging to the plan version will be updated to the current version. Any other product enhancements currently existing in the version are not impacted.
