Migrate to Unified Security Exposure Management (USEM) from Vulnerability Response

    • Use the Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management tool to migrate to the Unified Security Exposure Management (USEM) platform for a smooth and secure transition.

    Before you begin

    Role required: Admin

    Ensure that you:
    • Run the migration in a non-production instance before attempting to use it in production.
    • Install the Unified Security Exposure Management application from the store.
    • Upgrade to USEM using the Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management tool if you’re migrating from a version below 30.0.
    Note:
    If you aren’t ready to migrate to USEM, select Upgrade later. The Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management is hidden from view but remains accessible through the Filter Navigator.

    About this task

    The Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management tool provides a guided user interface and helps with preparation, conflict resolution, post-migration verification, and more. It verifies that all records and integrations are correctly updated.

    The Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management tool is included with the Unified Security Exposure Management application. Install the Unified Security Exposure Management application [sn_vul_usem_common] before you install v30.x of any of the other Vulnerability Response applications.

    The Unified Security Exposure Management application [sn_vul_usem_common] is available in the ServiceNow® Store.

    Procedure

    1. Accessing the Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management tool: Navigate to All > Vulnerability Response > Administration > Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management.
    2. Preparation: Review the customizations that may have to be resolved after upgrading to USEM.
    3. Migration:
      1. Review the ordered list of applications to upgrade in the Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management.
      2. Upgrade applications in the order displayed (core applications first, then integrated applications).
        Note:
        Follow the upgrade order strictly to avoid dependency issues.
      3. Confirm all applications display the status Completed.
      4. Verify all post-upgrade scheduled jobs are completed (status shows upgrading job, running until jobs are finished).
        Note:
        You can’t proceed until all upgrades are complete.
    4. Optional: Resolve conflicts: Address any upgrade conflicts found.
    5. Complete migration:

      The post-migration step restores the turned off items and validates the results.

      1. Navigate to the post-migration page of the Migration assistant for Unified Security Exposure Management.
      2. Select Enable all to restore integrations and jobs.
      3. Review the summary showing the number of integrations restored, scheduled jobs re-enabled, and migration rules successfully migrated.
    6. Verify completion:
      1. Run sample Vulnerability Response jobs or check integration connectivity to verify instance functionality.
      2. Review any unresolved upgrade conflicts.
      3. Review the list of re-enabled integrations and jobs
      4. Review the number of successfully migrated VR migration rules
      5. Review any unresolved upgrade conflicts (if applicable)
      Your instance is ready to operate with USEM. You’re redirected to the lookup rule page.

    Result

    The migration to Unified Security Exposure Management is complete. All integrations and jobs are reactivated, migration rules are successfully migrated, and the instance is ready for use.
