Configure a generative AI skill

  • You have the option to review the details, edit the configuration of a skill, and reactivate it in the Guided Setup.

    Before you begin

    Note:
    Depending on your license, you will have access to certain application features, generative AI skills, agentic workflows, and AI agents. For more information, see ServiceNow product tiers.
    Important:
    Some Now Assist skills, agents, and agentic workflows are turned on by default. For more information, see Now Assist skills, agents, and agentic workflows on by default.

    Role required: admin

    Procedure

    1. Navigate to All > Now Assist Admin > Skills.
    2. With Technology selected in the navigation panel, select Security Operations from the list.
      The Now Assist skills for Security Operations page is displayed. Now Assist for Vulnerability Response skills are activated by default and supported for Now Assist for Vulnerability Response starting with Zurich Patch 4. You can only see the skills you are entitled to.
      Note:

      Upgrading the Now Assist plugins will activate any designated skills that were previously untouched by the customer.

      • If you have the plugins installed but never touched the configuration (never activated the skill nor adjusted associated roles) of a skill, any Default On skill will be activated on a per skill basis upon upgrading.
      • If you have previously toggled a skill from active and then back to inactive or have updated any roles for that skill, that skill will remain inactive upon upgrading.
      • You maintain full control over deactivating individual skills at any time after activation.

      The following steps are optional. You must deactivate a skill to configure it using the Guided Setup.

    3. Select Deactivate skill for the skill that you want configure.
    4. Select Activate skill.
      The Guided Setup is displayed.
    5. Follow the steps to configure and activate the skill using the Guided Setup.
      Note:
      Some skills do not require all the configuration steps listed below. Select the only tasks that are displayed in the left panel and follow the prompts. After you have completed the tasks, activate the skill.
    6. Select the General Details page followed by Save and Continue.
      This page is read-only.
    7. Optional: Choose one of the following options to define availability.

      Customize skill availability The skill is available only when certain conditions are met.

      Use the condition builder to set your conditions.

    8. Select Save and continue.
    9. Define access.
      Note:
      • For the SPC Setup Connector skill, the sn_spc_cxf.admin role is displayed. This role is required to configure SPC API connectors with advance scripting with the Connector builder.
      • For the Vulnerable item deduplication skill, the sn_vul_ai.run_vi_dedup_job role is displayed. This role is required to run the deduplication jobs from the workspace.
      • For the Recommend preferred solution for VIT skill, the sn_vul_ai.run_suggest_solution role is displayed. This role is required to run the recommended solution feature for vulnerable items.
      • The sn_vul_ai.read_suggest_solution_job role is required to run the scheduled job for remediation tasks, view the Recommend Solution Job [sn_vul_ai_suggest_solution_job] table, and view run status.

      You can edit these roles, but you might prefer to leave them as the default settings for this step.

    10. Select Save and continue.
    11. Determine where you'd like to display the skill and who can view it in the workspace.

      User roles Select the expand icon (Right arrow that indicates information is not displayed) so the role from the Define access step is displayed in the list.
    12. Select Save and continue.
    13. Review your choices and select Activate to complete the configuration for the skill.
    14. Select Return to Security Operations to return to the Now Assist skills for Security Operations page.
