# Create a contract type

Create a contract type for defining different types of legal contract
requests.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_lg_contracts.contracts_config

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllLegal AdministrationSimple Contracts AdminContract Types.
2. Create or modify a contract type.
   * To create a contract type, click New.
   * To modify an existing contract type, open the contract type from the list.

3. In the Name field, enter a unique name for the contract type.
4. Select the Active check box to enable this contract type.  
   Only active contract types are available for use in document templates, contract repository, and third-party or NDA contract-related legal requests.
5. Save the contract type.
   * Save a contract type by clicking Submit.
   * Save the changes to an existing contract type by clicking Update.
