# Add and configure the Portal Browse Taxonomy widget

# Add and configure the Portal Browse Taxonomy widget {#ariaid-title1}

Add the Portal Browse Taxonomy widget to your portal and modify its behavior. The widget displays taxonomy topics along with the articles and catalog items related to them.

## Before you begin

The UI Components for Customer Portals plugin must have been activated. For more information, see [Activate the UI Components for Customer Portals plugin](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/Pb0heiF4RROdFS2ew2xp6g "You can activate the UI Components for Customer Portals plugin (sn_ciwf_ui_cmpnt) to enable Configurable Portal widgets. The application installs related plugins if they are not already installed.").  
You must have the following setup in order to add, update, and use this widget:

* The page to which you want to add the widget. For more information, see [Create a page for Configurable Portal widgets](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/A6NdZO9SGG4PFGM0QWgoJg "Create a page into which you can add Configurable Portal widgets.")
* A taxonomy to map your content. For more information, see [Create taxonomy](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=create-taxonomy-content&version=xanadu&pubname=xanadu-employee-service-management&ft:locale=en-US).
* At least one taxonomy associated with your portal. For more information, see [Add a taxonomy to your portal](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/wvYPdQgQhAD80seTT98oQA "Create a taxonomy to organize knowledge articles and catalog items under topics which are relevant to your user. Associate a taxonomy to your portal to display the relevant topics on the widgets.").
* At least one topic associated with the taxonomy. For more information, see [Create and associate topics](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=create-topics-for-taxonomy&version=xanadu&pubname=xanadu-employee-service-management&ft:locale=en-US).
* Topics associated with knowledge categories and catalog categories. Role required: admin or sp_admin

## Procedure

1. Navigate to the AllService PortalService Portal Configuration.
2. Select Designer.
3. On the Service Portal Designer page, search for and select the page to which you want to add the widget.
4. Select the Widgets tab.
5. In the Layouts section, drag the Container layout onto the portal edit page.
6. On the Widgets pane, in the Filter Widget field, enter <kbd class="ph userinput">Portal Browse Taxonomy</kbd>.
7. Drag the Portal Browse Taxonomy widget onto the container layout.
8. In the Edit page, select a Portal Browse Taxonomy widget.
9. Select the Pencil icon (![Pencil icon]()).
10. On the Instance form, fill in the fields.
