# Create a Content template

# Create a Content template {#ariaid-title1}

A content template is pre-defined publishing plan for news articles. Create a content template to enable content authors to create and publish higher volumes of news article content.

## Before you begin

Role required: sn_cd.content_admin or sn_cd.content_template_owner  
* The following content destinations are available out-of-the-box:
  * All News: the news feed widget on the News Center page
  * Featured News: the Featured News widget on the top of the News Center page
  * Featured News Mobile: the news section on the mobile app
  * Latest News Home Page: the news widget on the portal Home page
  * Other News: the news feed widget on the article detail page

  To publish to a different page and widget, create a custom content destination. See [Add content destination](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/_KTFEMSbmWXZQ2ontK1~gQ "A content destination defines the page and widget for publishing news articles. It is a component of a content template, which auto-generates publish plans for new articles.").
* Define the audience. See [Create an audience](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/6V1NcFoQjmQrIDhdeFt6ag "Create or modify an audience record to define the conditions or criteria that users must meet to view content.").
* Define content categories to tag the news articles, such as company news, pay and benefits, or industry news. See [Create a content category](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/tkSD1PKfV84DFK9aKxd6DA "Create a content category to tag news articles.").

* Enable and configure Content engagement features. ## About this task

The steps below guide you in creating a content template based on the form that appears when you navigate to AllContent PublishingContent TemplatesCreate New.  
If you instead navigate to AllContent PublishingContent TemplatesView All then click New, the form has the same fields but with different field names. Also, that form does not provide the ability to add a content destination, audience, or content categories to the template. Instead, you define a Content template record, then open the Content template to add the content destination, audience, or content categories.  
Note:  
The Content template must have a defined content destination and audience to appear as an option in the Content Library Publish tab.

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllContent PublishingContent TemplatesCreate New.
2. Fill in the fields on the form.

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Title | Title of the content template as you want it to appear in the news article creation form. |
   | Description | Description for the content template. |
   | Pre-load reusable article | Select the reusable article to set the content layout. |
   | Default | Makes this content template the default publishing plan for future news content. |
   | Duration | The period of time for which to make the news article available. Note: This duration setting only applies to content destinations that do not have a set duration. |

If you do not see the form fields for content destinations, audiences, or categories, click Submit. You will be redirected to the All Content Templates list, where you can reopen the Content template to edit it. For each tab, click Edit to select the options.

3. Use the arrows to add one or more content destinations to the template.
4. Use the arrows to add one or more audiences to the template.
5. Use the arrows to add one or more categories to the template.
6. Select the Reusable content item to insert a news article layout.
7. Select which engagement activities to enable.
8. Click Submit.
