# Create delegation rule categories

# Create delegation rule categories {#ariaid-title1}

Create categories or sets of granular delegation rules that make delegating large
batches of tasks easy and efficient for your employees.

## Before you begin

Role required: admin

## Procedure

1. Navigate to AllGranular DelegationDelegation Rule Categories.
2. Click New.
3. On the form, fill in the fields:

   | Field | Description |
   |-|-|
   | Name | Label for the delegation rule category. |
   | Application | Application associated with the delegation rule. This field is not editable and shows the application of your correct scope. |
   | Active | Option for activating or deactivating a delegation rule category. |

4. Select Save or Submit.  
   If you select Submit, click the delegation rule category to edit it.
5. Create or assign existing delegation rules to the delegation rule category:  
   * Under the Delegation Rule tab, click New. Follow the steps to [Create delegation rules](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/i4DZSTnJaf4YJbiHw1UEjA "Specify which records are available for service delegation. Specify records by table name, by a condition, and by whether they are an approval or an assignment.").
   * Click Edit to select from existing delegation rules.
6. Click Update.

## What to do next

Delegate assigned tasks for a specific period of time. See [Create a delegate](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/1GWHG7M2aGNWOykRg6Hsuw "Delegation admins (delegation_admin) can delegate tasks from one employee to another using Granular Delegate.").
