Business Continuity Planning (BCP) helps you enact and mitigate risk at the time of an
event by addressing action items such as plan assets, activities, recovery teams, documentation,
policies, and procedures.

BCP consolidates all the data needed for managing business continuity and disaster recovery
plans in ServiceNow AI Platform®. It organizes a catalog of enterprise data into a single
system of records. Instead of creating records, you can simply select the required data. Creating
plans then becomes simple and effortless by taking advantage of the existing information and
arranging it in a logical association of data for recovery.
Figure 1. Business Continuity Plan workspace overview

The program manager, planner, and viewer get a custom workspace to work on, which presents them
with the current status of plan-related activities. The workspace is a secure portal to open the
plans that are available for access to the user with a particular role.

You can build your plan within a single user interface with the ability to open a plan tab to
complete a task. You can move on to the next plan task to add, delete, or update the details of
the plan.
Figure 2. Business continuity planning workflows

With comprehensive action plans in place for different possible disruptive scenarios, and a
dedicated team with responsibility to act quickly at the time of a loss scenario, your
organization is equipped to face a crisis or any adverse
situation.
* **[Create a business continuity plan from a plan template](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/1BgfIDY4x~WygRPjaCvjWQ)**
As a program manager you can create a plan for the respective business units that can be used in times of business disruption. You can use a specific plan template for each plan type to streamline the process of a plan creation.
* **[View plan details in scorecards](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/sy5ApmdfJL4LJvBT2~gdtQ)**
Use the Overview tab to gain a quick understanding of how robust your business continuity and emergency plans are. This tab gives an overview of the scores of important plan elements, each as a scorecard.
* **[Add an asset to the scope of a business continuity plan](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/jfSPd4iOwePxus4NASKGGA)**
Use the Scope tab to add an asset to the scope of the plan. If the business impact analysis (BIA) application is installed, you can view the primary elements defined in the plan template, its recovery time objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO) details, and the business impact analysis.
* **[Add related assets and related plans](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/V3sEAjyJ0Hb8cQI18KNYDg)**
Identify related assets and their referred plans to recover the assets in your planning stage. Reuse the configuration item relationship data that flow from CMDB to business impact analysis (BIA) during dependency assessment to identify the assets in your plan.
* **[Create and manage plan documentation sections](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bhWed6UoCPo9PPMAvZi7hA)**
Use the documentation section to document the recovery capabilities of the plan.
* **[Assign roles and responsibilities to recovery teams](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/7GVstLUtZr1MZ9fNlhq~Aw)**
Identify individuals and groups and assign them to the recovery team so that they are aware of their roles and the responsibilities of the role to act in a crisis situation.
* **[Identify loss scenarios and align them to the plan](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/BRSzleiIErtfr5JO3_wZBQ)**
When you create a continuity plan or a recovery plan for a department or a business unit, it is necessary to identify and align loss scenarios to the plan.
* **[Establish recovery strategies for asset dependencies](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/rt6sPee53ApAtoTIwQPVnw)**
Use the Loss Scenarios tab to add asset dependencies and identify recovery strategies to deal with various loss scenarios. A plan, complete with recovery strategies for the identified loss scenarios, helps to address gaps that exist.
* **[Create, update, and group recovery tasks](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/5FnrThHuPjuxf6~9TxvN6w)**
Create tasks in a plan to recover your business from various disaster situations. Prioritize the tasks by determining the critical assets that have to be recovered and estimate the time by which the task must be completed.
* **[View the general details of a business continuity plan](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/YOExpSXvqe8OObDYkCfVJg)**
Use the Details tab of the plan to view the general information about the template that is used for the plan, its type, and other details.
* **[View approval state flows for a business plan](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/9dh3T7JdNJCus7CRqhxSrQ)**
View the approval state transitions sent at each level of the approval process, and the details of the approvers as you direct the business plan through multiple levels of approvals.
