What to do when monitors don't work after upgrading synthetic monitoring.

## Condition {#troubleshoot-sm-mid__condition_gr3_jj1_bhc}

After upgrading synthetic monitoring, monitors remain in unknown state.

## Cause {#troubleshoot-sm-mid__cause_hr3_jj1_bhc}

After upgrading synthetic monitoring, if the monitor is hosted on a MID Server, the server must be restarted to re-recognize the hosted monitors.

## Remedy {#troubleshoot-sm-mid__remedy_ir3_jj1_bhc}

Restart the MID Server. See [Manually start, stop, and restart a MID Server](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/access?context=t_InstallMIDServerAsWinService&version=yokohama&pubname=yokohama-servicenow-platform&ft:locale=en-US).
