## Summary of Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry

The Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry enables users to ingest Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data from the ServiceNow Cloud Observability application using REST APIs.
It facilitates event integration into ServiceNow with Event Management.
Note that this connector will be hidden in new instances starting with the Australia release but will still be supported.

## Key Features

* **Import Project Topologies:** Allows site reliability engineering (SRE) teams to obtain a consolidated view of project data, including incidents and change requests.
* **Event Importing:** Enables the import of events from Cloud Observability to enhance SRE triage activities.
* **Guided Setup:** Offers a structured sequence of tasks for configuring the integration.
* **CMDB Integrations Dashboard:** Provides a central view of integration statuses, processing results, and errors, with filtering options for specific metrics.
* **Data Mapping:** Utilizes the Robust Transform Engine (RTE) to map Cloud Observability data into CMDB class definitions, facilitating data insertion through the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE).
* **Inferred Service Linking:** Connects inferred services with configuration items (CIs) in the CMDB for enhanced data accuracy.

## Key Outcomes

By utilizing the Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry, ServiceNow customers can achieve a unified view of their operational data, streamline SRE processes, and improve incident response through integrated event management. Additionally, automated data mapping and reconciliation enhance the accuracy and relevance of CMDB entries, supporting effective IT operations.
Use the Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry to ingest Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data from the ServiceNow Cloud Observability (formerly Lightstep)
application using REST APIs. Push events from the Cloud Observability
application into ServiceNow with Event Management.
Important:
Starting with the Australia release, Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry is being prepared for future deprecation. It will be hidden and no longer installed on new instances but will continue to be supported. For details, see the [Deprecation Process \[KB0867184\]](https://support.servicenow.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0867184) article in the Now Support Knowledge Base.

## Use cases {#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__section_gkq_wv3_dxb}

The following examples describe how you can use the Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry:

* Import project topologies from Cloud Observability so that the site reliability engineering (SRE) teams can have a single view for triage with other ServiceNow data points (such as a change request, an incident) from a single view.
* Import events created by Cloud Observability against monitored projects to pinpoint SRE triage activities.

## Guided setup {#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__section_whm_5cr_sqb}

The guided setup for the Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry provides an organized sequence of tasks to configure the integration on your instance. To access the guided setup, see [Configure Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/DxWjhmIAv3nsav_8kmMu~g "Set up scheduled import jobs to pull in data from ServiceNow Cloud Observability (formerly Lightstep) into your Configuration Management Database (CMDB).").

## CMDB integrations dashboard {#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__section_anq_fww_prb}

The Integration Commons for CMDB store app provides a dashboard with a
central view of the status, processing results, and processing errors of all installed
integrations. You can see metrics for all integration runs. You can filter the view to a
specific CMDB integration, a specific time
duration, or a specific integration run. For more details about monitoring Cloud Observability integrations in the CMDB Integrations Dashboard, see [Using the CMDB Integrations Dashboard](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/D5WmDWQQwWe_cmLk0Xi2sw#integration-commons-for-cmdb__section_fxg_lh4_blb).

## Data mapping {#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__section_j24_gww_prb}

Data from the Cloud Observability data sources is mapped and transformed into the ServiceNow
CMDB configuration item (CI) class definitions using the Robust Transform Engine (RTE). Data is inserted into the ServiceNow
CMDB using the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE).

When you complete setting up the connection, you can configure the integration to pull data from the application periodically.
The following table describes the data sources, the scheduled jobs, the staging tables, and the target tables as CMDB CI classes for the Cloud Observability application.{#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__table_udz_pgq_1bc__entry__5}

For more information on where data is saved when pulling data from Cloud Observability, see [CMDB classes targeted in Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/b_4XumX4W5sNOgxIjvsm1A "When you complete setting up the connection, you can configure the integration to periodically pull data from ServiceNow Cloud Observability (formerly Lightstep). The data is saved in tables that extend from the Configuration item [cmdb_ci] table.").

You can use the IntegrationHub ETL app to view the data maps. See [IntegrationHub ETL](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/v7fsbao~MbpHYJRg8TulGA "Use the IntegrationHub ETL store app to create and manage ETL transform maps, which integrate third-party data into the CMDB or into non-CMDB tables without compromising the integrity of data. IntegrationHub ETL provides a simplified user interface that guides you through the integration process end-to-end, including a test integration run of sample data.") for more information.

## Inferred service linking {#sgc-cmdb-integration-opentelemetry__section_h12_fwb_sxb}

The ServiceNow
Cloud Observability application can infer the presence of an inferred
service when the span calling the remote service has the necessary information. Service Graph Connector for OpenTelemetry provides the linking of inferred services and
their related services with CIs in the CMDB.
For more information, see [Linking inferred services with CIs](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/V7m1D1IGnbqDq9rM0wy76w#sgc-cmdb-opentelemetry-services "Create inferred services relationships in your ServiceNow instance with other Cloud Observability application services as originally configured in the application by linking an inferred service configuration item (CI) in CMDB with an inferred service from the Cloud Observability application.").
