Create an expense line to capture the cost associated with a specific source, such as a user or a fixed asset, for a demand.

## Before you begin

Role required: it_demand_manager

## About this task

Expense lines on a demand record track the costs incurred during the demand evaluation process. You can add multiple expense lines to a single demand. Expense lines can be used only for evaluation costs and cannot be linked
to cost plans. Only processed expense lines are counted, and their total automatically rolls up to the Demand actual costs field on the demand record.
Note:
After a demand is converted to a project, the expense lines remain with the demand, while the cost plans and budget are migrated to the project.

You can also create or edit expense lines from the Expense Lines tab in the Details page.

## Procedure

1. Navigate to WorkspacesPortfolio Planning Workspace.
2. Select the Demands icon ![]().
3. Open a demand from the List page.
4. Select Financials from the navigation menu.
5. From the More actions menu, select New expense line.

6. On the New expense line form, fill in the fields.
For a description of the field values, see [Expense line form](https://www.servicenow.com/docs/19X6uPO9vyMyOlDz9P~Qlg "The expense line form enables you to create an expense line for the actual expenses for your demand.").
7. Select Save.
