Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery
Summarize
Summary of Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery
The Amazon EventBridge Event Bus pattern-based discovery within ServiceNow’s Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application enables you to automatically find and map Amazon EventBridge Event Buses in your AWS cloud environment. This discovery populates relevant data into both Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and non-CMDB tables, enhancing your visibility into cloud messaging services.

Key Features
- Pattern Activation and Updates: The EventBridge Event Bus discovery pattern is disabled by default and requires activation. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating patterns does not count as a customization, ensuring patterns receive updates without losing settings after upgrades.
- AWS Discovery Prerequisites: Ensure AWS discovery prerequisites are met, including removing relevant resources from the Resource Inclusion List to prevent duplicate discovery.
- GovCloud Support: Discovery of AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires configuring the AWS service account with the appropriate datacenter URL.
- Data Population: The discovery populates detailed information into:
- Non-CMDB Tables: Using the “Amazon AWS - EventBridge Event Bus - Extended Inventory (LP)” pattern, data is stored in AWS-specific non-CMDB tables accessible under Configuration > AWS.
- CMDB Tables: Key data about EventBridge Event Buses are stored in the Cloud Messaging Service [cmdbcicloudmessagingservice] table, including name, ARN, type, install status, and operational status.
- CI Relationships and References: The pattern creates relationships such as “Hosted on” linking Cloud Messaging Services to AWS Datacenters, supporting comprehensive service mapping. References link discovered EventBridge Event Bus records to related CI records.
- AWS Tag Discovery: Tags from AWS EventBridge Event Buses are collected and stored in the Key Value [cmdbkeyvalue] table, linked to the corresponding Cloud Messaging Service CI, enabling enhanced tagging and filtering capabilities.
Practical Implications for ServiceNow Customers
By enabling and configuring this pattern, you can automate discovery of Amazon EventBridge Event Buses, ensuring accurate and up-to-date representation of your cloud messaging infrastructure in your CMDB. This supports improved service mapping, impact analysis, and operational visibility. Proper setup, including adherence to AWS discovery prerequisites and managing resource inclusion lists, helps avoid duplicates and ensures comprehensive data collection. Additionally, the support for GovCloud accounts and tag collection enhances flexibility and governance.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns finds Amazon EventBridge Event Buses on your cloud environment. Discovering some of these resources may require updating to the latest version of the Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application from the ServiceNow Store.
Pattern-based discovery and mapping requirements
- Verify the AWS discovery prerequisites
- For more information, see the prerequisites section in AWS discovery using patterns.
- Remove resources from the Resource Inclusion List table
- Verify that the relevant resource isn't listed in the Resource Inclusion List [sa_cloud_inventory_resource_whitelist] table to avoid duplicate discovery. For more information on removing resources from the Resource Inclusion List, see AWS Resource Inventory discovery with Patterns.
- Enable the relevant pattern
- The pattern for this service is disabled by default. Starting with Visibility Content version 6.28.0, activating or deactivating a pattern won't be considered a customization, and it will continue to receive updates. Patterns that were previously activated or deactivated will reset to the latest predefined version after upgrading while retaining the last active field value. For more information on enabling patterns, see Activate a disabled pattern.
- Configure the Discovery schedule to support GovCloud
- Discovering AWS GovCloud (US) accounts requires using a datacenter URL when setting up an AWS service account. For more information, see Create AWS service accounts.
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in both CMDB and non-CMDB tables.
Data stored in non-CMDB tables
Discovery and Service Mapping Patterns application populates data in the non-CMDB table when running the Amazon AWS - EventBridge Event Bus - Extended Inventory (LP) pattern.
You can review the non-CMDB AWS tables by navigating to . You can also search the navigation filter for the specific pattern name.
