Manage releases for digital products and services

Track the progress of your releases, and work on them to release products and services faster and more efficiently.

Role required: sn_dpr_model.release_coordinator, sn_dpr_model.product_manager, or sn_dpr_model.release_admin

About this task

Watch the following video to learn how to create, track, and manage releases for digital products using the Digital Product Release, including working with release phases, tasks, and monitoring release progress.

Procedure

1. Navigate to Workspaces > Digital Product Release Workspace.
2. Select the releases icon ().
3. Select a release from the list to open.
4. If the release isn't in progress, select Start release.

• Managing timeline-oriented releases
  Managing a timeline-oriented release involves following a series of deadlines and milestones and adjusting as necessary to keep your release on track.
• Managing stage-oriented releases
  Managing a stage-oriented release involves completing objectives and closing the release when the work is done and meets the defined release criteria, rather than waiting for the planned end date.
• Managing multiple releases through release bundles
  Release bundles help you to group multiple releases to track and manage them concurrently from a single place.
• Review and update release details
  Review and modify the details of a release. You can also retarget the readiness date of the release as required.
• Add a product to a multi-product release
  Add a product to a multi-product release to expand the scope of the release as requirements evolve. The added product gets its own child release with phases, tasks, and policies aligned to the main release.
• Remove a product from a multi-product release
  Remove an included product from a multi-product release when the product is no longer part of the release plan.
• Update the scope of a release
  Review and update the scope of the release by adding or removing product enhancements, planning items, and related tasks like incidents and problems.
• Manage configuration items in a release
  View and manage the configuration items (CIs) in a release phase to manage the release effectively. These associated CIs can be used for managing change requests and future tasks through the release.
• Manage change requests in a release
  View and manage change requests in a release. You can create and add new change requests to the release or add existing ones.
• Generate AI-powered release notes for a release
  Generate structured release notes for a release using AI-driven summarization, reducing manual effort and improving clarity for stakeholders. The release notes are generated from the release scope.
• Manage artifacts in a release
  Add or remove artifacts from a release.
• Approve or reject a release task
  Review a release task and approve or reject it.
• Retarget a release
  Change the release readiness target to reschedule the release period.
• Close a release
  Complete a release after all tasks have been completed and all phases are in compliance with the mapped policies.
