Domain Separation allows Managed Service Providers and enterprises to
support multiple organizations within a single ServiceNow instance.
Domain Separation provides data, process and user interface
partitioning to accommodate variations amongst tenants while
maintaining the ability to report against and manage the environment
as a whole.
The course begins with evaluating whether Domain Separation is
warranted given specific use cases. Significant focus is then directed
towards developing appropriate domain architecture to support business
requirements. Then, during the remainder of the course, students
configure a Domain Separated instance for a fictitious company,
evaluating and discussing best practices at each step in the process.
The course also discusses the business of the Managed Service
Provider (MSP) and best practices around ongoing administration. The
following topics are covered in the course, and are reinforced by
doing a mini‑implementation at the conclusion of the course:
An overview, which provides examples and explicit criteria for
determining if Domain Separation is the best way to onboard an
organization to a ServiceNow instance
and terminology used to discuss Domain Separation
Architecture of a Domain Separated instance, including how to
implement domains and understand implications of a domain hierarchy
on process, data, and UI
Given a detailed corporate
structure, sketch a domain hierarchy that creates process and data
Identification of global integration points ‑
what system elements can be shared between domains?
separation of custom tables and process logic to assign records in
tables to domains
Settings and controls that specify domain
membership and how they affect the user experience
Application support for Domain Separation ‑ which applications
are managed globally and which functions may be delegated to be
administered within a domain
Development and Management
Practices establish and maintain a stable, secure environment that
meets business needs

The class features lecture and discussion as well as extensive
hands‑on practice and reinforcement delivered in a wide variety of lab activities.
