Content Guide

Activate Performance Analytics – Step 1

To activate your plugins:

  • Activate your Performance Analytics license.
  • Activate the Performance Analytics content packs associated with your license.

Every ServiceNow instance comes provisioned with Complimentary Performance Analytics for Incident Management—a limited subset of Performance Analytics features and content—for analyzing only the incident management process. Activating your Performance Analytics license will remove this restriction.

You'll need these three items to complete the activation:

  • The specific Performance Analytics entitlement you purchased
  • A user account with the admin role for your ServiceNow instance
  • The name of the release version running in your ServiceNow instance

Identify your entitlement

You received a welcome email from welcometopa@servicenow.com after your purchase. (If you have not received an email or you have questions, please reach out to welcometopa@servicenow.com.)

In your welcome letter, your entitlement is listed immediately following the text “You have purchased.” Make note of the plugin name that corresponds to your entitlement before moving to the next step. View this table for the complete list of entitlements and their associated plugins.

Identify an administrator for plugin activation

In order to activate the identified plugin, create a user account with the admin role for your ServiceNow instance.

Activate the plugin

Instances running Kingston or later use the Subscription Management feature to activate the plugin without involving ServiceNow staff.  If your instances run on an earlier version, you need to submit a plugin activation request via HI. Identify your instance version in the table below and click the corresponding link to view the relevant product documentation.

Note: If your entitlement is Performance Analytics Premium and you’re also running Kingston Patch 3 (or earlier), follow the Jakarta instructions to submit a request via HI.

Activate Performance Analytics content packs

Performance Analytics ships with out‑of‑the‑box content (indicators, breakdowns, widgets, and dashboards) for every ServiceNow solution. These content packs contain some initial best practice key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards you can use to get started quickly, but you can always create your own as well.

You need the following items to complete this step:

  • The name of the specific Performance Analytics entitlement you purchased
  • A user account with the admin role for your ServiceNow instance
  • A list of content pack plugins associated with your Performance Analytics entitlement

Identify the content packs to activate

Content packs are available as plugins that can be activated by your ServiceNow admin regardless of your instance release version. In order to identify the plugins to activate, you need the entitlement name from the welcome email you received from welcometopa@servicenow.com after your purchase. (If you have not received an email or you have questions, please reach out to welcometopa@servicenow.com.)

Click the link below that matches your entitlement name to view its list of plugins:

Activate content pack plugins

Activate the plugins you identified above:

  1. Log in to your ServiceNow instance with an account that has the admin security role.
  2. In the left navigation pane, go to System Definition > Plugins to view a list of available plugins. (See Figure 1.)
  3. In the Name search box at the top of the main content pane, type the name of the plugin you want to activate.
  4. Click the name of the plugin in the list to expose the plugin detail page. (Figure 2 shows an example.)
  5. Under Related Links, click the Activate/Upgrade link to view the plugin activation dialog box. (See Figure 3.)

Note: The system runs a dependency check and may identify additional plugins you need to support the plugin you selected. These plugins are activated when you click the Activate button. For example, clicking Activate in the image below not only activates the Performance Analytics ‑ Content Pack ‑ Application Portfolio Management plugin, it also activates Application Portfolio Management and two additional Performance Analytics content packs.
  6. Click the Activate button. You’ll see the plugin’s installation progress (Figure 4). Verify the operation was successful or review the logs for any failures (Figure 5).
  7. Click the Close & Reload Form button to return to the plugin list.
  8. Repeat steps 3–7 for each plugin you want to activate.
