How ServiceNow EMEA protects our planet

Earth Day, April 22, is an important occasion to show support for our environment. Across ServiceNow EMEA, our people see environmental protection as an endeavour that needs to be prioritised every day. That’s why they’ve been going the extra mile toward a greener future.

In honour of the theme for Earth Day 2023, ‘Invest in Our Planet’, we want to highlight our employees’ inspiring projects across the region. From creating ‘habeetats’ to cleaning up canals, they’ve spearheaded a variety of initiatives that are making a difference in the way we support our planet.

Cleaning up EMEA

Building a more sustainable world requires a collaborative approach, which is exactly how our teams across EMEA have been addressing waste in our environment. From Dublin to Milan, employees used their annual 20 hours of paid time off to come together to clean their communities.

  • The Amsterdam-based PAR team used four boats made of previously collected plastic to fish out plastic waste from the canals. They collected 90 clear plastic bottles, 19 garbage bags of general waste and other plastics, and 17 pieces of glass.
  • The UK team took to the canals of Birmingham to remove waste with the Canal & River Trust, gathering litter from across the waterways.

  • A group from Ireland combed the Grand Canal in Dublin to collect litter.

  • The Milan team picked up litter across the city’s parks, collecting nearly 5,000 cigarette filters and more than 100kg of garbage.

Conserving the environment

Our global restoration projects in partnership with One Tree Planted inspired the team in Ireland to get their hands dirty too. The group pruned and watered a variety of plants and trees to spruce up a local park.

ServiceNow employees are just as dedicated to supporting wildlife as they are their surroundings. The culture team at our Frankfurt, Germany, office celebrated World Bee Day by setting up a beehive at NABU Rosbach with the Bienenbotschaft.

Bees are vital to the functioning of our ecosystems. The ‘habeetat’ our employees created is a valuable contribution towards the preservation of their population and helps raise awareness about the importance of natural habitats.

Alongside our work to invest in the planet, employees have helped those affected by the devastating effects of severe weather. When Germany experienced severe flooding in July 2021, ServiceNow employees stepped up to help. They provided aid by removing rubble and cleaning up oil hazards.

Empowering employees to protect the planet

Last October, we held a Climate Impact Week for employees to learn ways they can fight climate change. They had the opportunity to participate in online learning tracks provided by Glacier, an Austrian company that specialises in action-oriented climate impact enablement for workforces.

In addition, we held a hybrid green design thinking session across multiple EMEA office locations and online. The goal was to identify ideas for climate impact initiatives that our company could implement as we continue our environmental efforts.

More than 150 employees participated in the event kickoff, led by Robert Rosellen, area VP of sales for Germany and Austria. They were inspired to take action through organised waste and e-waste collection events in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich.

This is just the beginning of our investment in the environment. Our communities across EMEA continue to drive initiatives for a more sustainable world.
